Is it just me or is Case Modding getting old?

Perhaps I've been doing this too long I've had case mods for years until very recently. I remember the days when there were only a handfull of black cases and windows were something you had to do by hand (and not pre-bought).

I went to QuakeCon this year and walked around the BYOC and there was only a handful of case mods I think were actually worth it or intresting. Most of them had a lot of hand painted/crafted pieces. However, the vast majority of PCs there were these cookie cutter hodgepodge collection of LED fans, pre-windowed cases and lights.

And searching through Newegg you are going to find a thousand cookie cutter case mod boxes. For that matter you are hard pressed to find a decent looking OEMish box.

Guess it has simply gotten too commercialized with even major OEMs catering to these case modders (Dell XPS comes to mind). You can even walk into a CompUSA and buy your standard case mod supplies that years ago you at least had to solder the power connectors manually. I'm just tired of it.
 
A nice, sleek black case is what I'm after. Maybe with some discreet lighting on the bottom of the case, you know, the kind that pulses to music. 🙂
 
New trend, blank beige cases.

Really though, I don't like these flashy LEDs and stuff. I like a nice simple case. I guess im a minimilistic type of person.

 
I have a black Lian-Li case, I modded the intake to let more air in, have a few extra fans, a fan controller on front with LEDs and knobs, and a window in the side. I also changed all the fan grills, cleaned up the wiring inside, and even put the same fan grill on the CPU fan that I did on the rest of the case.

It's simple, but it's a little nicer IMO than a regular case. If someone thinks it's a sad mod or doesn't think I did enough to set myself apart, fvck them. I'm not doing it so other people will tell me how great my mod was.

Hey if you like it more power to you it's just the way I see it if your going to do pointless mods that look like EVERYONE else's box I wouldn't even try. I'm planning a new A64 build and to be honest I'm trying to find a decent looking OEM looking box because I don't even want to try to mod it in the least (and surprisignly there are very few non-windowed cases that look decent). Maybe I'll just build my next computer in the drywall and just screw seeing the computer entirely.
 
I modded my case if you can call it that, put a 80mm LED fan in the top and painted it with a black 'hammered' finish.
 
I always thought it was a bit silly and a waste of money. My computer sits under my desk. Why do my feet need to look at my processor and have a night light?
 
I modded my last case a few years ago . Hit it with a 12 gauge with#4 shot from about fifty feet . Man that thing could breathe .
 
I've never cared for modding and all that, but I have to say, I'm having a complete blast with modding my machine. I requested a dremel for my birthday from my wife (she got the good LithiumIon one), and I've having a blast with all the stuff. Granted, I'm doing everything by hand (no kits), so its not just putting crap together. Nonetheless, my case isn't like most peoples' machines, and I'm going to be proud when I'm done. So, as far as I'm concerned, do whatever floats your boat and sails your semen.

Case modding has always been stupid. A computer is a tool. Get out of your room and go work on something meaningful. Who cares if you PC's case looks like a Transformer? It is fine to add fans and stuff for cooling purposes but the rest is rather silly at best.
