Is it just me, or has ATOT traffic gone down substantially...

I disagree. I think with the new categories, the same userbase is spread thinner, so it seems like there's less traffic.

A lot of people haven't been able to get here for several days.

"Page can't be found" message on Firefox.

Timeout on I.E.

I finally found my way back via Safari, but still slow as stink.

Agreed.

Possibly. But I just don't see any traffic in the 3 subgroup I have looked at.

I hate how they try to be like everyone else and seprate things into sub-categories. Put em back, Jack!

There has definitely been a reduction in the number of posts, and it is more than just spreading them across the various subcategories. At this point I see essentially no advantage to the new version of Fusetalk, which seems slower and offers only trivial improvements over the old one.

Nah, I still see the same number of users logged in at various times of the day. Peaks at ~550 users; is usually in the 150-200 range. Just like the old days.

I do see less threads in OT. Earlier, on returning after 12 hours, there would be at least 50 new threads. Now, there seem to be a lot less.

When everything was in one forum, you got "Floaters" who would click random threads if they would post a "YAGT" or "YACT" and were waiting for updates. Kinda like impulse clicking if you will.

So yeah, I believe splitting the forums has basically cut down the traffic. Things are more relevant now, but not as opinionated.

I read a lot less threads now that it takes so long to open a thread. Before I'd read anything that looked halfway interesting, but now the extra 5 seconds or whatever to open a thread makes me more selective or I'd be here all day reading everything.

First of all the theory about the traffic being more spread is wrong. Look at the numbers logged in at a certain moment throughout the day, it is about 200 less than usual.

Second, yes it is spread out, for the people that are still here.

People did not like the change and left or don't visit quite that often

It is slow as hell, especially now

the quotes are messed up making things hard to read

FF users keep seeing an oops page that makes them think it is down for maintenance, when in fact they need to clear their cookies but they have no way of knowing that unless they see the forum page, but they cannot because of it. catch 22

Derek is doing his best, but the prep for this was horrible. Either way at least he is listening to feedback, we just have to bear with it for now.

Ironically enough the new forums were supposed to draw even more users, unfortunately it scared off most of the old ones. :(

As it gets more categorized and controlled I would expect the number of posts to continue to dwindle. It's not friendly anymore, it feels oppressive and most people don't respond well to that. And as I've said before, I fully expect to log in one day and find a "Feminine Hygiene and Hair Removal" category, I'm sure it will be a big hit...

ATOT used to be like 6-7 of the new "categories" all in one. That is what was so great about it that you would see stuff that wasn't related to hardcore tech stuff as you would in the other areas of these forums.

Now with it spread out you have less and less people in ATOT, causing less traffic to be here. It definitely is worse after the change by a lot. Not only are there less users on here, the upgrade interface now sucks and there are a lot MORE bugs now than there previously were. I see absolutely 0 improvement after the upgrade. If there are new features I can't even tell (other than "rating posts" but that's a stupid feature in itself).

All I see is it performing worse and it's a lot buggier now.

I would take the old forums back in a heartbeat, where I could read about video games, movies, yagt's, cars, and general stupidity all in one forum instead of having to try and hunt the threads down.

And yes having to visit the garage separately sucks...I understand the theory in concept, about more specific areas brining in more people...except I first joined ATOT because there was so much info in one area and everything kept getting updated etc, so I felt so overwhelmed to learn more (the first time clicking on highly technical, and you know what I mean) that I kept coming back to read as much as possible. That would never happen with a slow traffic forum, or a highly divided forum. Also I miss YAGT's. Also AT is a tech forum, no need for the garage or YAGT to be separate. The garage gets traffic because of posts that should be in ATOT, and people making threads just to post in the new forum, whereas they could much easier get their answer to their specific problem by posting in a manufacturer specific forum (i.e. Corvette forums, honda civic forums, etc).

Also the theory of subdividing stuff brining in more people is flawed, because it might bring in more people who type a question into google, but those people will likely find their answer and leave never to return again. Those type of people just find random sites for their answers.

Separate forums will definitely draw less traffic, they only needed to analyze the other low traffic sub forums to see that. I like that there's less people actually :p Maybe the people that aren't around are good for the forums.
