Is it just me, or does the Canon A70 feel cheap?

Now I know everyone here loves the A70, and even I can?t argue it takes a very nice picture, and has mega options in the manual modes. For the price it?s a steal.

But I was at Fry?s today and I picked one up and it felt very cheap to me, the zoom lever felt very loose and the battery and compact flash door felt week like they wouldn?t last very long.
So I asked the Fry?s guy to take out a new one so I could check it out thinking maybe it just the demo has been beat up by all the people handling it but the new one felt the same.

Now don?t get me wrong I love canon and just sold my PowerShot S300 because it was to small, but based on the feel of the cameras it seemed like they were made by different companies my s300 seemed way more solid and tight. I do realize they are not in the same class.

I?m curious if anyone has had any problems with their A70, oh and by the way I?m still going to buy one.

Re-read what he wrote. He tried a new one too.

I only have an A40 and it feels solid... don't know about the A70.
 
Im not trying to slam canon, Im just curious what you guys think and if any of you have had any problems with it.
 
Well, you got what you paid for.
$300 for 3MP, feel cheap like A70.
$400 for 3MP, feel solid like S30.

Want something to feel expensive ? pay more 🙂

Same here, I have a A40 and hope to be able to get an A70, I hope they didn't cheapen it, but I doubt they would do that to such a winner of a product.

I wish they had an upgrade plan to crank the A40 up to 3 minute Video clips like the new A70, seems like it would just be a firmware change. I would gladly pay a reasonable price for such an upgrade without having to buy a whole new Camera after only one year.

 
I bought an S30 over a year ago and I think it is better than the A70 in every way possible. There is a reason that the Canon A series is considered to be the "economy" series.
