Is it just me or does Phantom of the Opera music suck

btw that new Christine in the movie is very yummy
doesn't hold a candle to brightman vocally, but wowie wow wow is she hot :Q

We played a compilation of the songs last year in band..simply awesome. Other than my pregnant 20s director singing along. Ughhh. There's a reason she isn't a choir director.

A huge chunk of that "musical" stuff sucks, so it's not surprising that you don't like it.

It's not just you - much of Phantom does suck, but some of it is really good - it's a very commercialized musical, but if you listen to the original cast recording, some of the songs should really stand out.

Yeah, it's pretty awful...I'm not a big ALW fan, but he's had some good moments...and not many of them are in Phantom.

The music definitely sucks. Compare it to something like Les Miserables and you really see how bad it really is.

Which is ironic because you'd imagine something with "Opera" in the title to at least have nailed the songs.

Just remember that any movie with Minnie Driver in it doesn't deserve any kind of credit.....except Gross Point Blank, of course.

i watched it again in new york last week. the girl that played christine was terrible, but the phantom was fantastic. i guess it all depends on who's up that night. i wish it had been some cute understudy, instead of that weak-assed 35 y/o.

good production though, you can't mess with stagework like that.

Not like every opera has great music, though At least the title implies that it's ABOUT an opera as opposed to The Threepenny Opera (which does have awesome music) which is not an opera at all!
