Is it just me or did the Nvidia 6800 drastically increase your system temps?

I used to have about 39C for my system temps, but now that I have installed the 6800Gt on my computer, idle temps are up to 45-48C! Did you guys experience the same thing? An Nvidia Silencer is on the way and I hope this will lower my temps back to normal.

I got a 3-4C rise in case temps when I went from a 9800Pro to a 6800GT, which was a bit of a surprise at first, until I realised that the GPU was hitting almost 70C under load, even with a huge, double-sided copper heatsink (Leadtek card) on it. I wouldn't be too worried, and the Silencer will almost certainly drop your case temps down at least a little bit back towards normal 🙂.

Hi. I have an exodus case which as a 90mm front intake and 80mm side intake plus another 90mm rear exhaust. All my fans are Vantec stealth fans though. Super silent but so-so CFMs. Im more concerned with the noise than with my temps but I was just surprised with how much the temps rised with the 6800 as my case temps with my old 9600xt were great. The most noisy fan in my system is the 6800GTs stock fan.

maybe this is dumb, but couldnt you take an exhaust fan and pipe (if u know what i mean, it's like a fan inside of a pipe that u can put in your pci slots that draws air from the top to the outside of the case) and put it under your card? That may be what i'm going to do, as it doesnt void the warrenty like the silencer but still draws air out of the case.

They cost around $15 for a good one.

depends how you measure. if ur talking mb temp sensor(case sensor) then it could be anything. maybe the card is spitting hot air right at it.. or just warming the air over the sensor before its tossed out

try putting a slot fan, the pci slot fan thingy above the gfx card, sometimes cases have that slot that is above the first PCI slot thats what I use. It seems to work fairly well.

Any higher-end card will increase case temps.
OK, you're pulling 50-150w for the CPU
Now you can be pulling another 50-100w from the video card. Probably 50w, or more, more than the 9600XT.
That power must be dissipated somewhere. With reference coolers, it will be exhausted into the case. The hot air then goes towards the CPU and PSU, and is exhausted. The more power, the hotter it will be. Arctic Cooling VGA Silencers offer a good solution (though some people have had problems seating them).

A 9600XT can run passively in a crappy case all day long. Only Gigabyte believes a 6800GT can run passively at all 🙂.

Just found out why my temps were so high. I didnt screw on my new CPU heatsink tight enough. Right now my CPU temps are 29C idle and 37C under Prime95 load.
