Is it just me or ARE the ANANDTECH FORUMS UNBEARABLY SLOW?

I wish they would just be fair and load the banners at the same speed as they do the forums. Its amazing how the banners ALWAYS load IMMEDIATELY, then it takes forever to load the actual forums. If you are going to cripple the free forums speed, at least make it so the banners load when the content loads..

i had the exact opposite problem... the code for the forums was already downloaded but the frickin' ad sites kept timing out.

Now if you ask me, I think this slow speed will turn people away from the forums. So while you will get some money from subscribers, less people will want to visit, making it a turn-off to advertisers.

The subscribtion idea is horrible. I will not pay for a internet forum with higher speeds. Bandwidth shapers typically reduce bandwidth period.

I fully back the subscription idea. Anand is not stupid... I'm sure he looked at all the possibilities, did the math and picked the best option. Since you nor I have access to the information he has, nor the numbers, its difficult to argue about it.
And yes, I am a very happy subscriber.

I used to run a certain site that got a lot of hits. I refused to use any pop ads since i hate them so much. My host, which was at first free, had to start charging me. At that point, i had to close down the site. I'd hate for that to happen to the forums here.

The ads come from another server, thats why theyre so fast.

Too many people use the forums.
