Is it just me or are Republicans just really really bad for the country?

Would you hire someone who came in for a job interview and said "I hate your company?" That is what hiring Republicans to run Government is like.
Except that growing my company would presumably put more money in my pocket, whereas growing government puts less money in my pocket and also tells me what to do with the remaining change. Epic analogy failure.

I guess your claim here is that Republicans don't grow the government when in power?

Is this a real question? Politicians spend hours research, not mention they have hundreds if not thousands of people working behind the scenes. We also put them in office in order to voice our concerns, in reality we're the ones doing the talking just through them.

I'm not sure what you're asking or implying. Yea, the bill won't be perfect but so what? What bill is perfect? At the end of the day, the democrats right now appear to be the shinning light at the end of the tunnel.

LMAO. good one.

No, no, and no, werepossim, its you that have the epic analogy fail. Until government favors the interests of the bottom of the food chain, the overall economy will shrink. And if you kill off the consumer and the customer, your overall money in the pocket will shrink.

The overall billionaire list came out today, and its now smaller than it was before.

Everyone forgets that Tab is barely just past kid-dom. And he used to be Tabb, when he was completely a kid. And he was one of the die-hardest republicans in here. Apparently he has some of the most malleable political opinions ever, to pull a complete 180 like that.

So who knows what he'll be posting 3 years from now, he'll probably be a monk.

I really don't know what to say, other than it was 7+ years ago. The fuck?

People quit believing in santa claus too at some point when adults, and some never grow up.

Tristicus, it does not matter where you and I are politically, what matters is the ability of the USA to advance and adapt to the changing challenges of the future. Which means we have to look at the problem collectively.

But be it resolved, during the eight years of GWB&co, the worse elements of the extreme right of the GOP got exactly what they had wanted for the past 50 years enacted into law.
As common sense reforms put in place during the past 100 years were dismantled and the GOP extreme right was able to put their pet theories to the test in the USA.

I think we can all agree that those totally free market theories totally flopped and as a result we got an economic meltdown that reached critical mass by 10/08.

As a result, the democrats took the House, the Senate, and the Presidency in the election of 11/2008.

The problem is, the GOP opposes all common sense reform, so we are still stuck most of the policies of GWB.

The GOP strategy seems to be somewhat the strategy of an Ostrich, somehow they hope to be rewarded by the American people for blocking everything, but if the GOP has seemingly learned nothing in the screw ups of GWB. And if the GOP ever gets back in charge, they will totally screw up the country again inside of two years. In short the GOP does not know what its stands for but enjoys its current ability to oppose everything.

In terms of health care reform, maybe we will just have to wait until our current health care system collapses. The handwriting is already on the wall as various private insurers are raising their rates 20-40% now in 2010. And if that trend continues, many private employers will simply do what many have already dome, opt out and quit coverage for their employees at all.

I personally do not think the real problem lies in the main stream GOP or in the democratic party, but rather in the current leadership of the GOP who serve only the interests of the extreme right wing of the GOP.

Someday, all this madness will pass and republicans and democrats can again work together in a bi-partisan manner, but until then, this country will be unable to adapt to new the new challenges and demands of an ever changing world.

Maybe best expressed as the GOP brainfart called the " project for a new American century ", that sadly turned out be how to totally screw up America in the shortest possible time.

Free market has not failed and Republicans do not practice it anyway. What they practice is free market at the bottom saying government assistance to people will make them “dependent” and "lazy”. They say a socially competitive environment breeds “market discipline” by rewarding the most resourceful and competitive. Of course, they don't believe it nor practice it as they shower their own with benefits keeping schools like Phillips Academy in Business and enjoy a plethora of government benefits and services. Everything from perpetual patents, to steal, to big sugar, to big oils' virtually free oil leases, to S&L Bailouts, Wall Street Bailouts, the wars we fight to keep MIC rolling in cash the Big government Republicans are all about welfare. Millions of examples have been documented by places like Mises Institute of what Republicans really mean is big government for the top 1% and against you. Competition and free market really scares the shit out of Republicans.

I've been thinking about this for the past month given the rather high amount of drama going on in Washington.

It's totally obvious that Sara Palin is absolutely unfit to be vice president or let alone even use a computer without adult supervision. With that said, isn't it stunning to see how she was chosen by the republican party / McCain to be the next-VP? It just shows a massive lapse in judgement and really poor decision making by the GOP just in general. Not to mention the complete a total disaster Bush left the state of the country in.

Now, we have the healthcare debate and the Republicans are spewing out some of the most vile and outright lies - death panels. Plus, they're still continuing to spread a outright lie even after Obama explicitly discussed it!

In the beginning of the healthcare summit Republican Minority Whip Eric Cantor comments that these healthcare abuses by the insurance companies are merely "alleged", during it you have John Boehner outright lying about funding of abortions only to have Pelsoi correct him and plus you've got McCain resorting to talking points only to be aggressively smacked down by Obama. Which I thought was awesome to see Obama's experience as a lawyer come out but sad to see someone like McCain whom was largely respected by Democrats/Liberals but go off to the deep end and play politics at the healthcare debate.

Now, I know you can tell me Democrats did this and this but seriously Republicans are just really terrible, and their sucky-ness can't even be compared to the Democrats as they're not even on the same scale. I'd also like to say for the Republicans reading this, I don't find the Democrats that appealing but goddamn with the Republicans around they sure as hell look a whole lot better.

EDIT - So, what do you think will happen in the next decade? Personally, I'm predicting Obama wins in '12 relatively easy, the only question is how much of a fight can the Republicans put up or how much legislation will they be able to block? If the TeaParty gets off it's feet and actually becomes a real movement instead of a bunch angry-old-white people we might have something.

Ahahahahah Obama's experience as a lawyer? Oh right.. the experience he got from Harvard Law School... which he was admitted to because of affirmative action. Wait, I don't think he got any experience there.

President of the Harvard Law Review... But he never published a single article. Not one.

also why does he sit like a girl?

One partisan extreme to the other. The fuck?

I don't believe I'm being partisan at all. Only one conservative attempted to debunk my points that rest just threw ad hominems - which is allowed by the moderators.

You are clueless.

Your whole thread is partisan and based on nothing more than meaningless talking points.

Cuba has better healthcare than the US?

Republicans are spewing out lies??

Palin shouldn't use a computer without supervision?

There is no real thought behind this thread. It is just one worthless attack after another.

Quoted for truth. All of the attacks OP has made have no solid basis. Anyone can choose a ANY random point out of all the billions of possible points in the world, and find a measly website or single statistic online that would make it seem as though it has credibility. The facts are you are scrounging for wikipedia articles, exaggerating silly ideas. Clueless is right.

Do some more research on Cuba.

1. Life expectancy is not an good indicator of healthcare, not even close. Drug use, violence, auto accidents and wars keep the US life expectancy far lower than it would be if you adjusted those deaths out of it.

2. Cuba takes steps to increase things like life expectancy in order to create political propaganda. Read the three links below to see what I mean. Forced abortions and recording under weight babies as fetal deaths are two ways they achieve such high infant mortality rates.
http://www.cubaverdad.net/weblog/the-truth-about-cubas-infant-mortality-rates/
http://www.overpopulation.com/articles/2002/cuba-vs-the-united-states-on-infant-mortality/
http://www.lewrockwell.com/fontova/fontova66.html

The Cubans understand that idiots like Michael Moore will make a big deal out of the greatness of their medical system so they jury rig the results generated by the system to make it appear better than reality.

For example, if the Cuban healthcare system is so great then why is the death rate of Cuba children between one & four 34% higher than the American death rate?? Could it be the fact that no one pays attention to this number, but everyone focuses in on the infant mortality rate? (The number of Cuban children who die the day after their first birthday is amazing, it is like Logan's Run, they must throw them into the sky and yell "renew" while doing so.)

Furthermore, one reason the US has such a high infant mortality rate is that we go to extreme lengths to save babies that many countries ignore. In Europe a 26 week premature baby will be left to die on the operating table and recorded as a fetal death or still born while in America doctors will spend hours trying to save that same baby and if it does die it will recorded as an infant death. We have the most stringent infant death reporting in the world. If we did what every other country does then our rate would improve dramatically. The WHO actually recommends that any baby born under 1000g not even be included in their live birth statistics, the US ignores this recommendation and records any life birth as a life birth.

Try googling 'Cuba infant mortality rate' and look at all the gushing stories by the New York Times and ABC news about how wonderful Cuba is and how many babies would be saved if we could achieve their rates.

And then google 'Cuba abortion rate' and learn that they have the highest abortion rate in the world because they abort any pregnancy that looks like it might have the slightest difficulty.

After you have done all this get back to me and tell me if you still think Cuba has a better healthcare system than the US. And if you still think Cuba's system is better then I will send you links detailing how Cubans go without advance medical supplies such as aspirin and clean sheets.

Okay, adjust it then.

You must work for the US marketing department - the US worse in drugs, violence, wars. How impressive.

But on auto accidents, you're wrong. The US is one of the safer countries, lower casualties than Cuba.

(Lowest autro accident casualties are Sweden.

Gotta love Volvos).

Put some serious thought on how bad our country is since 2006. Then look at what happened to the legislative branch that year.

Yeah, that's why the GOP picked up seat is 2008, right??? You are dumbing down more than I ever thought you could. The country flat out rejected what the GOP did to our great nation and economy no matter how hard you try to revise history now as we try and fix the mess you left. Real life is not Conservapedia where you get to edit reality. Yes, bookmarked indeed.
