Is it impolite to scratch yourself in front of people?

Yourself, meaning somewhere on your body and not just the groin area. Reason I ask is this guy I know does it all the time especially when he talks to people.

I don't think it is as long as you don't scratch the groin while talking to someone.

Depends on where you scratch and who the people are around you.

If I saw someone doing that, I'd take a step back. I hear fleas can really jump.

If you scratch yourself very often in front of people they might think your hygiene is not too good.

sure, i scratch all the time in public... it's not like i make a big deal of it, i do it discreetly and it looks like a perfectly normal guy thing to do...

and i have a nervous habit of scratching my head or neck or whatever when talking to important people. Ohwell.

I really try not to scratch myself in public... though I have a bad habit of scratching my face or neck when I'm nervous or mad.

It also depends on the company you're with. My best friends and I are like brothers and we do about everything without thinking about it...

Sounds like a nervous habit. If it's excessive, it becomes noticeable, but it's not as bad as, say digging around in your ear or picking your nose..

Guy at my college would regularly scratch his nuts. We clocked him at over 25 nut grabs in a minutes. Guess he was worried they would fall off and run away or something and just had to keep checking in to make sure they were still there.

I don't know. I think it's repulsive to watch someone scratch their head in public, especially people who have a bunch of crap in their hair, even though I've caught myself doing the same thing.

On a related note, why are a lot of guys walking around with their hands on their crotch lately? They're not scratching, they're just walking around with their hand there. It looks retarded.

I noticed a lot of people walking around with their hands in their pants. What is up with that?

My head just itches a lot this time of the year. There is zero moisture in the air and dry skin a problem. My head just get's itchy. Sorry if it repulses you! :p

i wouldn't scratch my head or anywhere near my butt or groin, but other than that, i think it's ok as long as you're not going to town on it.

I find that when I meet someone new, I like to scratch my groin/arse, and then follow that up with a nice handshake.

Yes, it is impolite and offensive to others when you interact with your genitals in public.

Really? Since when?

Serious reply, it's probably a nervous habit that the person doesn't even realise they are doing.
