Only in Texas

I dunno about TX, but didn't Louisiana pass that law a couple of years ago? Deadly force could be used to stop car thieves? I may be out in la la land on that one, I just want to say I remember reading it.

Looks like I was right :)

The Louisiana state legislature has shown great imagination in passing a law, by 123 votes to one, permitting the use of deadly force by drivers to prevent suspected carjacking. Providing you hold a gun licence it is now a legitimate defence to shoot a pedestrian or cyclist dead providing you had reason to believe they were about to hijack your car.

This guy is just a little biased against it...

very good point. no witnesses is the key.

--- that could bite you in the ars though, if the guy came back at your car/you later when he was recovered.

If that involves restraining someone or chasing him with a weapon, sure. But you are never allowed to use potentially deadly force solely for the protection of property. If someone is in your house at night, now that's different. So long as you shoot him in the front, that;s okay.

hmmmm somehow i just get the feeling that most of the people that post here, would run away from the thief, go inside the house, lock the door, and post on ATOT how they kicked his ass (meanwhile on the phone with 911, crying). ;)

Thanks, pyonir . . . :)
(EDIT: bold added)

Dude beat his ass. If I see someone stealing from my car, I'd call the police right away, tell them there is about to be a murder, then attack full force.

Assaulting anyone when it isn't in self-defense always runs the risk of legal troubles and possibly an assault charge. Therefore, you have to use a little thought here, its why you were given a brain.

You are perfectly entitled to 'impede' the progress and motions of a person attempting to do theft or damage to your property, as long as your motives and intent are NOT to injure. What you do is confront the person, then you try to get them to come at you. Once they come at you, then you're free to kick ass because it has now become self-defense. See?

If I saw someone doing that, I would definetly hit him a few times......the aluminum bat would be a great weapon:D I wouldnt beat the crap out of him, thats just dumb, and risky. I would hit him hard enough so that its going to remind him about what happens when you fsck w/ some1's personal property.

illegal, but if they were to complain you'd be forced to charge them for the damage and IMHO, an ass kicking isn't worth as much $$ as the sort of damage I'd do to a car.
