Is it illegal to shoot a hawk (the bird) in the state of Illinois?

Every other sort of game bird (Turkey, doves, quail, pheasant, duck, geese) require specific permits or particular seasons.

There are no seasons on birds of prey.

Federal - Migratory Bird Act (here) - Misdemeanor (6 months jail, $15000 fine)

Illinois - Protected Species (here) - Class A Misdemeanor (Less than 1 year jail, max $2500 fine)

Plus applicable firearms charges.
