Is it illegal to shoot a hawk (the bird) in the state of Illinois?

There's this large hawk (possibly a red-tailed hawk) that likes to hunt other birds (doves, cardinals, and robins in particular). I've seen him tearing about his prey numerous times, and not once was the prey a rodent. Just this morning he quite violently slammed his prey (a dove) into the side of the house, leaving behind a splattering of blood. To make a long story short, I have grown to hate this hawk and I want to kill it.

The only birds that you can legally kill without a permit in IL that I can remember are sparrows, starlings, and *I think* pigeons.

Every other sort of game bird (Turkey, doves, quail, pheasant, duck, geese) require specific permits or particular seasons.

There are no seasons on birds of prey.

...

Why cuz he kills birds instead of rodants?

I wish we had a hawk like that in LA that would eat pidgeons and seagulls.

Dayam, there the rats of the city here.

Seriously, its all part of the great circle of life.
You break the circle, its flat and it ends.

I didn't imply killing the hawk with the rifle. I meant it's just better than a pellet gun :)

And, yes, killing hawks is probably illegal (probably the same way any semi-endangered species is). Don't do it.

man, why would you want to kill such a good bird. Oh Noes, its killing the crap birds around your house, thats terrible.

Hawks are one of the best birds around, it makes me sad that anyone would want to kill such an awesome bird. (We have several hawks around where I live)

I would personally like to have on around my house.
Tiny little birds shit all over the place including the car. Having one or two of these around will definitely get rid of that issue.
