Is it illegal to record and then sell tv episodes?

i just wondering about this.. (for extra income). im planning to do this on egay but i dont think its legal, although there ARE people doing this. i currently have 2 anime sets (DBZ and kenshin) and now im recording lots of simpsons episodes. to sell these would be illegal right? 99% of me is yes.
