If an officer or anyone asks, he says he uses it to keep his hood up, as the pneumatic springs are shot. Why exactly would you need something like that in your car anyhow? If you use it it will get you in trouble, and if you don't it still can. You're in a car- any trouble you run into you can drive away...
Pneumatic springs for a hood?

Not only that, what in the world are you going to do with a Machete? Have you been trained in its use? It would seem to me that getting a Concealed Weapons Permit along with a small firearm would be a lot more useful than that thing.

You can have a baseball bat in your trunk by the way. Why he feels the need to say that it holds up his trunk is beyond me. (I keep a baseball bat and softball bat, and my baseball bag in my car most of the time)

Trained in it's use? It's a giant fucking blade, how complex could it possibly be? You swing at the shit you want in pieces. It's not like a firearm where you need to be taught on how to properly use it and keep it working properly.

A blade is only as useful as the person wielding it. Simply put, if you are not basically trained in how to use a blade for defense or attacking purposes, it may be easily be used against you if you are going against someone who knows how to fight.

I keep a machete in the back seat of my truck, the blade under the mat. The handle is easily visible though, I'm going more for "Keep it from cutting shit up" rather than "conceal a big-ass blade"

My truck has them. They're far more useful than the typical steel rod that unfolds to hold the hood up.

lmao, very funny.....

actually after re-examining it and trying to visualize holding an 11' knife in my hand..... man, that's pretty ridiculous. i had a lapse of judgment...... but you have to admit, that is a cool blade

I'm having a hard time visualizing someone holding an 11' blade! Maybe you can team up with the wizard in the Alltel commercials.

If you get in a fight against someone who knows how to fight, 99% of the people (including me) will loose anyway -- knife or not.

Sure they're not simply hydraulic?

QFT any other post is FTL.

the other advice that pulling out a knife for a fight if you dont know how to use it is also worth considering. enough people carry guns now that id be wary of brandishing a knife as though i was some badass ready for anything unless i had a death wish.

Hold on now, He's not talking about carrying on his person, he's talking about stowing it in his car. As far as I know, that legal. Though the blade pictured would probably get a laugh out of anybody seriously threatening you. For sure, know one that knows how to handle a knife would choose an ornamant like that, so any offenders would probably not take it as a threat and not hesitate to take it from your hands and throw it to the ground.

Go to the flea market and find a place that sells cheapie tools. Buy the biggest combination wrench you can find...the junkie Chinese ones are fine as they will crush a skull as good as a real one will. It will probably be a 2" wrench or so and it will be about 2' long or longer. Get the biggest one you can. It is a tool, not a weapon. You can't get in trouble for carrying it but it will be a much more effective weapon than a small knife in the hands of someone that does not really know how to handle one.

wow, there are a bunch of dumbasses on ATOT :)

i didn't say anything about protection from people. i see people keep blades in their car to cut seat belts in emergencies, etc. i go off-roading and hiking and thought it would be cool having this in the woods and all.

i have decided to go with the Mortal Kombat Raptor knife in lieu of the one posted earlier

I carried one of these for several years while working on the water:
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="https://www.kabar.com/product_detail.jsp?productNumber=1221&mode=category&categoryId=1,2,3,7,9&categoryName=Military/Tactical">https://www.kabar.com/produ......=Military/Tactical</a>

While it worked very well for cutting 2 and 3 inch rope lines on the barges, it also served me well as a steak knife at our BBQ's...:D

Uncle taught me well how to use and care for a Kabar once upon a time. I carried one with me daily in Vietnam, and it was a...very useful tool.

They may or may NOT be legal to carry in the vehicle, depending on state and/ or local ordinances. Here in Kahleeforneeya, it's not legal in the passenger compartment unless it's in plain sight. Mine (the one in the link above) was usually in a backpack with other crap, and usually in the back of my pick up with my lunch box.
(I still have it. It's in the drawer of my nightstand.)

A cylinder and piston can be a pneumatic spring if there is air inside and the cylinder is sealed. But, in my admittedly limited experience, I have never seen a pneumatic spring for a hood.
