I got one once while visiting my girl...err ex in Isle Vista. Had it parked on the street and was the first on the block facing an intersection. Came out later and found a ticket on the windshield. $25 fine but had the ex pay for it:D

oh man. this gets better. I called up the local VW dealership. a liscense plate bracket for the r32 bumper is a whooping $108!!!!

Im gonna see if my older liscense plate bracket fits on this bumper. otherwise its going on via industrial strength velcro (the type those EZpass tags have)

oh btw, here's what my car looks like now

They were required in Maryland when I lived there. I restored an old VW and didn't want to butcher the bumper putting it on. I just kept it on the floorboards on the passenger side. I never got pulled over but I'm sure the results would have been similar to yours.

You don't want to keep a license plate on your dash. Not only could it injure someone in a wreck, as has been stated, but the thing could even decapitate you. Better to have no plate at all than a plate on the dash.

yes, there are rules for states that require it

luckily, it isn't enforced in MO, i have had mine sitting in the passenger seat for 4 years and haven't been pulled over for it

in england you have plate on the front and back, must be clearly readable at all times...

if you lose a plate, then a cop will stop you and ask why its missing, providing you have one still on the car they will normally let you off so long as your story is credible and you are able to show a driving licence. if you get caught with both plates missing then you get hauled in to the copshop for a chat...hehe

in WI front plates are required, and all plates must be firmly affixed to the vehicle

really? oops. I have never had a front plate on my evo.

My front plate is in my trunk. I know it's illegal but it looks retarded. And it it just needs to be "Firmly Affixed" then you could tape it to the dash with duct tape...

Of course it's illegal, what would be the point of requiring the front license plate if people could put it where it can't even be seen?

You make yourself a more likely target for the police by being young and driving a modified car.

Don't make him spell it out for you. You know exactly what he means.

I got a $65 ticket in NYC because my car was parked in the street with the front licence plate on the dash board.... I had bought the car the same day and the previous owner had one metric and one english bolt to hold the plate.....arrr.. and I did not have metric wrenches to tighten up the bolts..

If you're in CA, take it to a CHP station for vehicle inspection. They'll sign off on it for free. LAPD and LA County Sherriffs want $10 or $15 to spend 3 minutes looking at your plate and signing off on it.

even though i was gonna get it put on soon, i didnt know this is illegal as i see people driving around with their liscense plates on the dash all the time

Yes, in states that require a front plate. The plate has to be in plain view. You can't see the plate in a windshield from the outside due to glare/curve of glass.

What, where in the hell did you get that info. It is required by law in NY State to have a front license plate.

Sorry, you're wrong. If you are issued two plates, you must use both of them. Not using the plates could result in a 25-200 fine and 50 dollar surcharge.

Wow, I guess I stand corrected. However, I see so many cars without them that it must not be enforced very often.
