Edit: There doesn't seem to be a clear cut answer. The first time I played my video, 3D mode was engaged since the clockspeed went up. Then I tried changing the output from VMR renderless exclusive to VMR windowless, windowed, VMR7 and overlay. All of them stayed in 2D mode. After switching back to the original VMR9 renderless exclusive, now even that stays in 2D mode. Hmm, weird.
I just found that if my 2D clocks are below 200MHz, then whenever I play a video, it will jump to 2D mode. If 2D clocks are 200MHz or higher, then it stays in 2D mode. Weird...
