I am thinking about doing this. Is there any harm?

I was thinking that you should give muscles a day to rest, but I'm not sure.

Thanks.

There is a lot of harm. When you work out, your muscle tissue initially breaks down only to build up a little bigger and stronger 24-72 hours later.

If you never give the muscle a chance to build up again - it will shrink.

This is why Abs are the only muscle group you should work out on every day. This is also why weight programs change the work out muscles every day.

what do you mean about abs every day?

abdominal (sp?) muscles = stomach muscles

I know what muscles you are talking about ..I wanted to know why you felt they were the only muscle group that could be worked out every day.

because you want your abs to shrink - this is what makes the 6 pack.

lol!

WOW.

Did you understand what I was saying.

Work your shoulders, chest and abs on day 1 and 3 or 4
Work your biceps, triceps and abs on day 2 and 4 or 5.
Work you abs, quads, hamys and calfs on day 3 and 5 or 6

So you work out 4 or 5 times a week, but alternate muscle groups so you don't work the same muscle two days in a row (except for abs)

no

you get the six pack look by building your abdominal muscles thru excercise and at the same time cutting your overall body fat % usually through some type of cardio excercise to show your abs.

your abdominal muscles should receive the same rest as any other muscle group.

The verdict on abs is that they should be treated like any other muscle group. Lift heavy, and get plenty of rest. You get a six pack from being lean, i.e. low body fat, not from tiny ab muscles.

I agree that it is very difficult to get abs unless you eat right and work out your cardio.

But your abs should not receive the same amount of rest as the rest of your muscles. It needs rest, yes but not the same amount.

If you're doing pushups, you're only lifting the SAME weight every day. You'd likely be doing numerous reps. Therefore, you're not really gaining muscle mass from the action. You'd be toning what you have. Essentially the same thing that Garet Jax said.....your muscles will shrink, but not go away. They'll actually be more defined and toned from doing this. Your pecs may look better from the daily attention.

A friend of mine used to do 250 pushups a day. (5 sets of 50) He worked up by doing 100/day in 5 sets of 20....and added about 5 per week until he acheived it. Doing this with situps/crunches and pull ups, you can get in shape fast. It's all based on doing it every day and adding cardio 3-4 days a week. You'll be buff in no time.

I'm always open to the possibility that I am wrong. I am simply saying what I did for many years. It is possible I misunderstood what he said - it is possible times have changed in the last 15 years - but it is not possible I misunderstood the results.

nothing has changed..

you treat the abs like any other muscle group concerning rest and working them out.

you get the six pack look by building your abs thru working out and lowering your overall body fat, usually thru cardio.

thats how it works.

Believe me - I have no intention of posting someone's name on here. Talk or leave what I said - I really don't care.

Please don't post if you don't know what you're talking about.

Christ, where do I start. You know what... fvck it... I was going to rant about Garet Jax's advice, but it's just going to make me MORE irritated. Do your push-ups every day if you want to. There is no harm... and no... you're not going to "unbalance" your muscles. The only way you could do that is if you were bench pressing a significant amount of weight and completely ignoring antagonist muscles. You only need to rest after high intensity workouts... anything of low/moderate intensity isn't going to damage your muscles enough to make it necessary.

The word tone describes the state of your muscles. The tone of your muscles is involuntary and you cant change it.

Toning = losing body fat.

I'm curious to hear what your definition of "toning" is. What you are talking about sounds like fat loss, spot reduction at that - which is impossible.

Also, stop throwing around this idea of shrinking muscles.

dont listen to some of these clueless people ... you should do your abs just like you do any other muscle group. you should not do your abs every day, or even every other day.

abs are a muscle just like any other part of your body ... why would you work them out differently?
