Is it good to do push-ups everyday?

I am thinking about doing this. Is there any harm?

I was thinking that you should give muscles a day to rest, but I'm not sure.

Thanks.

i doubt there is any real harm...doing push-ups isnt so strenuous that you would need to take off days...

You really don't need a lot of rest for something like push-ups. Your body will adapt quickly and they'll become primarily an endurance exercise.

Short Version: No harm (unless you have a history of heart problems :p).

It depends on how many reps you will do. Make sure you also do some pull ups also to work your biceps or your triceps will get out of imbalance and it can (read will) hurt you later. Muscle imbalances are never good.

I would give it a days rest. Your body develops from your time spent away from training so you should give yourself some rest.

If you do loads of push ups without doing some bicep work say 10-15yrs down the line you will have knackered your joints. But again this varies and it will depend on how many reps you do daily.

There is a lot of harm. When you work out, your muscle tissue initially breaks down only to build up a little bigger and stronger 24-72 hours later.

If you never give the muscle a chance to build up again - it will shrink.

This is why Abs are the only muscle group you should work out on every day. This is also why weight programs change the work out muscles every day.

Go for it.. unless you have a 300 pound weight on your back they don't strain your body too much

But with something like push ups, wouldn't that be more like a warm up exersize ? I mean, you might tear when you first start doing them, but if you did say.. 25 per day after the initial "tear" would this still hold true? Technically you are lifting the same weight& reps.

(Not trying to argue, I really have no idea. just asking)

In the Navy thy said "hell yes". But that was when I was expected to haul a firehose down into a mainspace and not get killed.

So these days, probably not.

I know what muscles you are talking about ..I wanted to know why you felt they were the only muscle group that could be worked out every day.

I used to work out a lot and used to help others come up with plans, but it has been a very long time since I even thought about it. It is definitely bad to do heavy bench press workouts in consecutive days.

Since your push-up is probably a lot less than your max - you may be right. Be cautious and maybe talk to someone who is a true expert.

Am I missing something? My sarcasm meter may not be working.

you get the six pack look by building your abdominal muscles thru excercise and at the same time cutting your overall body fat % usually through some type of cardio excercise to show your abs.

your abdominal muscles should receive the same rest as any other muscle group.
