Is it good that English is the current universal language?

Since English is pretty much the current universal language used, people can understand most of what we say, but we cannot understand the rest of the world.

For example, if you go to Japan, you and you don't know japanese, they can talk to you in English. So you would sort of feel like a n00b that you just failed to talk in their language.

Not to the same degree (pardon the pun). Math is (or should be) done the same whatever country you're in. The theorems/rules are all the same. Pythagorean's Theorem is the same formula no matter what country you're in. Even if the letters are symbolized differently, one would probably be able to recognize it given a drawing as context.

I am glad that over 50% of the world speaks some english,
because that is about all i can speak.

Why would that rule? It's too bad so many small languages are going extinct. Homogeneity is a bad thing.
