I'm tired of waiting for these to be avilable.

I feel exactly the same way. I am waiting for the Mazda CX 5 to be widely available.

I don't like the way the CX-5 is optioned. You can only get heated seats on the top end Grand Touring. That forces you to get leather. And it comes with too big 19" wheels that don't even have snow tires available that size. This rules it out as a good winter vehicle. The 25/31 fuel economy is also disappointing. I had been watching it for months too.

Who really needs the extra ground clearance from the standard Impreza hatch?

No other significant differences other than the jacked up suspension - right?

The only other difference is front and rear bumpers, and the light body cladding.

Ground clearance a big thing for me. We get lots of snow. Well, usually, but this winter has been bad. I like increased ride height for unplowed roads, sloped driveways and parking lot entrances, not worrying about curbs at the end of parking spaces, ease of ingress and outgress.

I'm not sure the regular Impreza would even be able to get up into my driveway without the bottom of the front bumper scraping, or the rear scraping when backing down where it meets the road. And as mentioned above, I really like not having to be paranoid about stopping short of the curb when parking.
