Is it fairly easy to boost the wireless router strength?

You can make or buy I a better antenna...however this also amplfies noise, so you need to start off with a good signal to noise ratio.

You can get a wireless access point extended too.

Find something nice and parabolic, silver it (Krylon makes some silver paint designed for silvering things), and use it either with the transmitter or receiver. :)

I thought there was a way to "overclock" it using the firmware to chaneg the signal strength etc...

If you have a linksys router have you properly configured it in the setup menu? There is a signal strength setting as well as antenna setting. Linksys routers have always provided me with a strong signal. Right now I'm hardwired to a linksys wrt54gx and at the other end of the house I have a linksys wireless ethernet bridge where my kids are and they just plug into it like a router. It handles the connection to the router for them and the signal and tranfer rates are always good.

Your right. It also amplifies the noise and you need a good antenna to boost the signal.

The "Pringal Can" hack is pointless - dont try it. Causes way to much noise.

The only way you can get a boosted signal is to buy a wireless repeater - They make ones that plug right into a wall outlet and boost the wireless signal. (postion it so it is on the outer edge of the signal - but still has a powerfull/fast enough signal to repeat). You can also buy another wireless accesspoint and connect it to a land line and enable roaming so when a user walks between the two access points they trade off.

I flashed my Linksys with the Satori firmware years ago and I am able to supply upto 84mA of power to the antenna. I think the default is 26mA. I'm not sure if you can do that with the stock firmware.
