So, I ordered an MSI 8800 GT 512, you know, with the heatpipes and fans and stuff. Plop the thing in, connect it, and BAM, my PSU makes this half hearted beep. I'm not sure if it's a beep or a short. The fans don't even bother trying to spin. I hope I still have it under warranty. I tried my other card (7300 LE, yeah I know, big improvement,) and it still wont boot. Everything's connected as it should be so it just makes no sense. Just a what seems like a half hearted beep from my PSU.

Edit: I forgot to add my PSU is 500 watts and is an Antec Smart Power... that should more than supply my system. 1.86 ghz C2D, 3 gigs of assorted ram, cdrom drive, 225 gig hdd, nothing extravagant. Should be more than enough to power that 8800, and given that it ran on 300 watts before I put in this new PSU... it boggles me.

Could be a dead PSU. Jonnyguru doesn't have a good thing to say about smartpower units from antec, how old is it ? You should check for bulging/popped capacitors. You can find some info here: http://www.badcaps.net/ so you know what to look for.

Did you try swapping in your old PSU and your old video card and tested to see if it booted? If it doesn't boot with the old parts in you might have shorted out something. Otherwise, it's probably the PSU and you should just swap it while its still under warranty. Also be sure to check to if your 12V rails have enough amps for the 8800. I think it recommends 26A or something.

I see, well I bought it from a friend who bought it from Newegg. Fortunately, I only paid 20$ for it, and it'd still be under warranty. I got my computer working, but my mobo, which is a 24 pin connector is only using 20. That isn't too terribly stable, but it works at the moment. Since it's late, I'll wait until tomorrow until I play with it some more.

Edit: I tried my old video card, but it's now working with the 8800... I just probably need to be more creative and not use a 6 pin connector probably. My PSU probably just loves to be anal.
