Those caps and the flyback to fire the CRT charge up to, what, 40 THOUSAND volts!

Take it to a pro. If you don't know what you're doing, you most likely won't make it better anyway. Unless there's something that has burned up, you probably don't have the tools and expertise to diagnose it. And even if you can find what's burned up, can you get the repair part and install it yourself? Do you have the schematics? If a part is burned up, will you be able to get the right thing to replace it with?

Are there any Black Friday monitor deals? That's probably your best answer!

I guess most here are too young to recall that almost any drug store or Radio Shack had a tube tester in them. If your TV went on the fritz you popped open the back and pulled out all the tubes and hauled them up to the store to test them. I haven't read through the whole thread but hopefully someone has pointed out that the dangerous part is the fly back transformer and high voltage section. Once you discharge it properly they are no more dangerous to work on than any other piece of electronic equipment.
