is it customary to tip at an open bar?

I tip a buck a drink at open or paid bars. Occasionlly at open bars they are not allowed to accept tips, but they will tell you (with a frown) if that is the case...

Yes. Buck per drinky is cool or maybe give the BT a $20 for your 1st round and make sure he knows who gave it to him. $20 for a night of booze ain't bad.

yep...at least a buck a drink, but if I'm ordering complex drinks, I might tip a little more for a competent bartender.

tommywishbone's suggestion isn't bad either...just give him/her a large tip at the beginning and enjoy your soon to be hazy night 😉

Whenever you get a free or discounted meal or drink, be sure to tip according to what the full price would have been.

Depends..if it's a corporate sponsored party at a pub or tavern then the tip is included with the open tab so there would be no need to tip.

oh definitely, if it's free booze, then a couple of bucks a drink is still a bargain.
