passengers, not pilots....

I know. I'm watching it on A&E right now too.

Your analogy didnt make sense.

Yeah it does. Just because somebody knows they can't do something, doesn't mean they won't do it anyways. People know they can't drive drunk, but they do anyways. People know they can't fly drunk, but they try to do it anyways.

It isnt commonly known that you cannot board a plane drunk.

First of all, i think it is. Most places have the right to deny you entry if you're plastered. Second, the point was that EVEN IF IT WAS KNOWN, PEOPLE STILL DO IT. Just because people know that something is wrong, doesn't mean they won't do it.

1. You can be drunk without raising attention to yourself.
2. My point was that you analogy made no sense, apples and oranges.

I think you might be surprised at how many people are unaware of this.

It wasn't an analogy, it was a point. I would assume that 100% of people know that it's against the law to drive drunk, yet people still do it. So whether people know it's wrong or not to fly drunk, they still would even if they knew.
This is what he's saying, it's not wrong to fly drunk, whereas one could make a much stronger argument as to it's wrong to drive drunk.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong. The OP insinuated that all those people who are boarding drunk, are doing it because they didn't know that it was wrong. I'm saying whether they knew it was wrong or not, doesn't matter... because it would still happen if everybody knew it was wrong. Just like drunk driving, which everybody knows is wrong, but you get it happening all the time.

I am now convinced that you are drunk.

The bolded statment sure seems to imply that you feel flying drunk is wrong. Not very well worded though.

Why? Because i'm answering the OP question? Do they not know. Or don't they care. They don't care is my answer. What are you talking about?

Well, ponder this:

Airlines may not allow you to get on a plane while drunk, but many flights serve alcohol. What is up with that?

(ironically I have downed about 1/2 a bottle of scotch tonight and I had to fix over a dozen mistakes in the above post. I don't know why I mention this, it just seems funny in relation to the topic of discussion.)

(I had to fix ~5 mistakes in the message between the ( ) above)

(I had to fix 2 mistakes in the ( ) above this.)

(Aw hell, i givd up) 0

Yeah, personally i think it's wrong. But that's not the point. The point is that even if everybody knew it was wrong... even if there were signs everywhere that said you couldn't be intoxicated and fly, people would STILL DO IT. EVERYBODY knows you can't drive drunk... so why do they do it? It's the same reason with flying.

One time I had a flight from Tokyo to Hong Kong. This Japanese man was chugging 6cans of beer on a 4 hours flight.

Lightweight little bastard.

He should have downed a case in four hours. 😀

That would suck. How many times did he visit the can?

That I didn't keep track. I don't get why the flight attendent keep handing him beer after beer though.

1. If you are drunk before you even get on the plane, the altitude will make you drunker than you might have expected and there's probably a safety issue. I'm gonna guess that drunk people that get on planes pass out at 30,000 feet an awfull lot.
2. Way too many people aren't good drunks and nobody wants a bad drunk in a closed environment like a plane.

Next time try it. If you can pound 4 beers no problem on the ground, try doing it on a plane. Generally the only time I'll drink on a plane is when I'm going to Vegas.

Hmmm, that's a good point. I have never considered this.

the airline lady on the show tonight cited safety, if there was an emergency, like a crash landing, the drunk person would have trouble exiting the aircraft safely and would likely inhibit other non-drunk passengers from getting out alive. it makes sense to me

I didn't know that, but would reasonably assume that if I was too drunk, they might think I could cause problems on the plane.

And could you people please try to avoid the 400 line quotes? Can't just quote a relevant part or something. Makes my head spin trying to scroll down the page.

Damn... I actually didn't know that. Apparently no one here has been on a vegas flight 🙂 Maybe they just give a bit of leway on Vegas flights? I know I've been plastered several times on flights to/from Vegas 🙂

Wow... you're on some good crank? Same reason? So let me get this straight... when someon flys drunk they do it cause its fun and takes the edge off the crappy and sometimes nervous journey. So thats the same reason someone DRIVES drunk? I don't think people drive drunk cause they really want to, more like they are just too drunk and lazy to get a cab.

You got the right idea, but its more like 10k feet due to the pressurized cabin. If it was 30k feet, everyone would pass out.. drunk or not.
