hold a package for a day even if it has arrived at its destination? Meaning, if someone paid 3 day, and it arrived in 2, is it common for them to hold it another day simply for that reason?

are you able to pick packages up early if they are holding them?

In my experience: It has never happened.

I'm at the center often enough and they literally do not have the space to stock "early" packages partly because they dont exist. Everything that comes in that day goes out for delivery that day. Advancing the supply chain 1 day dosent work.

In extreme cases when I know I'm not going to be home, I call ahead and have them hold my stuff at will call or I'll go to my drivers truck and ask them to find it and give it to me then.

I talked with a buddy of mine that works for UPS and he said they work off a minimum time deal... If its 3 day select and they can get it there in 2 days it looks good for them and the routing hub it came from... :) The do not make it a practice of holding packages though but if they have higher priority packages ahead of one such as this then it has to wait... But will be delivered on time the following day... ;)

Also in answer to the "holding" question yes you can pick it up at the local hub if you make arrangements...

Whats funny is I`ve had this happen with FedEx too... (looked like my package rode around the area for a day or so...?)

I've had things delivered early from UPS quite often. Although with FedEx, I've seen things sit in the local office for up to 3 days. The tracking would say "Not due for delivery." One time my package was scanned "Out for delivery," followed by "Not due for delivery." My guess is they put it on the truck then said... hey, this doesn't have to be there yet... and took it back off the truck. This happened twice in one day to the same package.

Space on a truck is a premium.... so if they have like room for 100 packages... and they have 101 packages to deliver... but 1 isn't due to be delivered till tomorrow.... it will wait.

No doubt my friend. In my experiences, FedEx has been FAR FAR superior in every way. Haven't had any shipping issues with them.... Even the delivery guy is nicer.

I really like Airborne Express myself, they seem to be faster and I've never had a package from them that was so much as dented.

That happens to me a lot with FedEx. Sometimes I actually get it early though. If my package rides around ad goes back on a Friday, I just take the 5 minute drive to pick it up at FedEx on Saturday. :D

FedEx has been good speed wise with me but occasionally on big, heavy packages, like monitors and computers, they really beat them up, much like UPS with all their packages.

add to that "Deliver empty boxes and packages that are clearly open and whose contents likely are at the bottom of the UPS truck"

ditto on the running over of packages. FedEx is so much better.
