Is it better to stay poor?

Or the lottery winner.😛

Wonder what the ratio is between successful ones and the starving ones?

Luck is opportunity meeting preparedness in a career. For an artist to have preparedness they either need good schooling and then focus and drive or a longer amount of time to focus on a career.

There are lots of starving artists. Most good artists arent working in fine art as thats where the majority starve. Most of them are making videogame content or working on film/television. These jobs pay decent.

What is your degree in? And what do you do for a living?

I'm saying you bear the same responsibility as the institution that loans money for "worthless" degrees.
Wrong. Me lending to a guy that needs to get his car fixed so he can go to work is not the same as a lender loaning guaranteed $$ to a special snowflake so that they can get a useless degree. Nor is it the same as college tuition exploding for all degrees because colleges can.

I wish my loans were guaranteed by the government. I'm 100% at risk. You would not do that.
So you're saying that I should make low interest loans to people with poor credit? You wouldn't.

That makes sense. But I wouldn't think an art history degree would be necessary.

Comp E. Loan shark or did you miss Magnus on his high horse?😛

Yup, you're a regular humanitarian. So, what kind of degree do you need to make 'payday loans?'

No not art history but studying the craft and having a solid foundation to move forward with be it with computer aided stuff or pen and charcoal or music or dance or theater. All of these things open up a number of jobs that are both known today and unknown for tomorrow. Creative arts are going to be the best place for a long term rewarding career in the future. It will be the last set of jobs that will be automated away.

So I guess you aren't going to answer but I didn't expect you to.

Hell no but I'm sure you work for free, right?🙄 I am a capitalist. My $$, my risk, my profit or loss.

Aren't all loans payday loans?:hmm: But I wouldn't know for sure if they required a degree or not since I've never worked in the business.

Just like a skilled trade (plumbing, electrical, welding).

There are ethics involved.

You can give a breakdown of all costs and fees and put everything in bold print, and be honest, and work with the person you are making loans to, or, you can try to con them into the revolving door game that they can never get out of.

The problem is, the person taking the loan is desperate, and will make bad decisions.

It's a tricky grey area.

Short term loans are more or less a necessary evil. There are lots of regulations in place to keep them honest...

QFT but I make the loan decisions. It's just stupid to lend to every idiot that comes in the door...unless the government is backing the $$ and they don't back mine.🙁

not really, just grind you way up.

buddy went and became a mechanic, now makes crazy money at lexus as a master tech. no degree to speak of, no student loans either. $500/month in additional compensation to lease a Lexus to boot.

Despite what most people complain about taxes and paying them, I hope that one day I'll have the privilege to pay million of dollars in taxes.

Well I know a person here (Bay Area) who was on welfare. Now she graduated with a Master's degree and got a job. But as she found out, the benefits (Section 8, Welfare, healthcare, etc.) she was getting were way more than an entry level job pays, even at her education level. (her house is $3k/month, 95% paid for by the Gov).

She is now in this situation too.
I am starting to think they should not offer section 8 in high land value areas because getting off section 8 is impossible for most these people.

I agree. People live in those areas because their job dictates it and that drives the cost of living way up. The perpetually unemployed can live anywhere and should move to some place cheaper. Give them moving fare if you must.

But what you said could explain all of these feminists who move to San Francisco then don't bring in any money outside of a couple hundred a month from Patreon...

I prefer having lots of money despite the higher taxes, loss of deductions and credits, and loss of tax benefits like Roth IRAs. Certainly beats the hell out of the alternative.

See the problem is work, pay off everyone, pay for food, healthcare (out the butt Obama), utilities, and the such, whats left over is less then what you had when you didnt work and got everything handed to you, so, why work? You dont work, they help you with your food, rent, utilities, loans (maybe), then you work under the table, make more money then if you did actually get a job, you have more cash by scrapping, doing lawns, what have you (youre actually working mind you, maybe not paying taxes but youre useful non the less) and you have butt loads of extra cash for all the good stuff and toys, and live large. So again, why work? Are you a pos, no, just why get a real job?

Thats what sucks for me, because Im disabled, and the system is kinda set up on the fence to stop people like that but hurts the ones that really need the help. I cant work, I have mental and physical problems that prevent me, and ss doesnt pay jack shit. But welfare, get this, doesnt count my ss on one end as earn-able income, so they wont deduct my mortgage, utilities, and the such, BUT, on the back end, they see it as income coming into the house, even though I have to use all that money to pay for everything, and when I do, I have no money left over for house hold items or even food. If it wasnt for my wife working, we wouldnt have jack shit, though she makes jack shit, because she is unskilled, and has to work part time, because we have a baby and I cant watch her full time because of my disabilities, and we can afford a babysitter, and to have a government appointed, crack smoking, one come here, NO THANK YOU!

So unless you are on the system, you dont know the system, and it sucks because I see it every day, all the people using the system, driving better cars, living in better homes, eating better food, getting food stamps, when we cant even get those, for they dont see my income as earn-able, but on the other end see it as income coming in as if Im flaunting my ss on shit we dont need and all the bills just get paid on shit coming from my ass.

Anyway, again, why work, why pay back, you can make more, on the system, work odd jobs under the table, sell plasma (there is $200+ per month there) and pretty much live good, if you know how to do it......most people are happy with mediocre :/

my wife only has a highschool diploma and she's making more than my sister and brother who both went to college. my brother isn't even using his degree and is a fire fighter now, and my sister is using her degree for her career. she's also making more than double that $30k number you threw out there.

college degrees don't really mean as much as people think they do. sure they help if you want to go a certain direction, but not having one doesn't mean you can't make a lot of money.

i also know multiple people who never stepped foot in a college that are running their own successful businesses, one of them that is probably going to be a billionaire (or at least hundred millionaire) in the next decade because his restaurant franchise is starting to take off.

there are just a shitload of lazy entitled people out there who feel they don't need to and shouldn't have to work hard to play hard.

Just checked my disability payout on ssa.gov if I were to be disabled today.
$2400/mo, and I have only worked for the last ~15 years.
Damn... I could live off of $2400/mo easily.
Now I see why so many people fake disability.

I don't know about you guys, but when I worked in minimal / minimum wage jobs, I wouldn't have described any of them as "easy" from the perspective of how hard I worked.

If you want a humane, civilised society, then being able to access basic healthcare should be a pre-requisite.

I know some of mine was laying asphalt, digging ditches, busting concrete with hammers and pic axes, and I wasnt paid much at all, in the middle of summer, busting my ass to make a buck. Id like to see some of the people here do that for $10 buck an hour, with no healthcare, vaca, 6 days a week, its what pretty much fucked up my body trying to put food on my table, for it was doing that, or driving a truck messing with 400lb+ 55 gallon drums all day too, and those were not exactly easy to move by yourself, and when they fell over, you had fun putting them back up, for thats what did me in. So now my knees are jacked, my back is jacked, and thanks to the drugs I been put on in the past and am now on, my legs are constantly shaking, my hands twitch, and fingers let go of things, and my eyesight is starting to go, so yeah me, and Im only 44. Doctors dont care, government doesnt care, the state doesnt care, no one can give a shit about you, and just want you to be, barely living, just to make it each month, no more, when you are on the system, dont do no better, so they got you under their thumb so you will always need them,a nd cant live without them if you try to do it on your own. If I was to try and do it on my own, Im screwed. I will lose my ss, my medical, and how am I to pay for my insurance, it will be out the ass to cover me, some of the pills Im on, I know two of them cost over $800 a month to fill. My wife for shits and giggles went to obamacare to see how much it would cost us to get insurance and it was over $800 for the 3 of us. I take 12 different pills a day, say I do $2k in pills a month. Plust say $800 for insurance. It costs us around $2100 a month to keep the lights on and everything for the house, were the FUCK do I come up with a job that will pay enough to cover at a minimum just to make due $4900 a month, if I was to better myself to get off the system right now???? All I know is manual labor and truck driving, and in my condition I cant do either, and it is taking me forever to write this out, with my finger twitching, and fixing the mistakes as I go.

So as you see, once you are on the system, youre, under that thumb, they got you. Thats $4900, just to pay my bills and food, nothing left over for anything else at all, Id need to make $60K or better at a job, to sit on my ass and do nothing for thats all Im good for at this point, if I want off the system. So Im forced at being poor. My kids are forced at having to live being poor, and there isnt a damn thing right now I can do to fix it. Untill my little girls gows up, my wife cant get a better job, but her being 44 as well, when that happens, she will be in her 50's, what then? How will she be able to better herself to find a better job so we can better ourselves? Again, we are fucked, and stuck on this god damn system, and they know it. I tell my son all the time, do good in school, do good in math and science, learn a trade, learn hvac, go to school for it, for no matter where you live, no matter what happens to the economy, they will always need heat and air, and for gods sake do not end up like us, or me, and he is busting his ass, and I am soooooooooo damn proud of him!
