Is it better to get fcpga 100mhz p3 1000 or a slot one p3 1000 for a abit be6? I have a slotkit adapter for my 700 celeron which I presume would work w/ the fcpga p3 1000 or should I get the slot one & not mess with the adapter? Googlegear did post this about the slot one p3: * Note: This boxed Intel Pentium III processor has only been tested and validated with Intel Server
Board L440GX+ (order code:BOXL440GXG) and Intel SR2000 Server Chassis (order codes; KB2HS,
KB2HSU) or Intel SC5000 Server Chassis (order codes: KHDBASEU, KHDHSU, KHDKSRPU).

Is that anything to worry about? The fcpga version is about 40$ cheaper.
Thanks for the help, Matt:confused:

1) goodluck finding a "new" slot 1 P3 1GHz.

2) get the S370 version and a slocket.

go for the fcpga cpu as it will be a cDO stepping with good potential o/clocking performance!

The fcpga version will able to go into more motherboards that are available than any slot1 version CPU. Better portablity and lower cost also.

Thanks for the advice! What heatsink/fan would you recommend for the fcpga p3 1000? (I think I'll get the oem version)

the p3 1000E fcpga only comes in OEM flavour now.
if you're not going to o/clock then you can use the appropiate intel hsf.
otherwise, I suggest you look at something like an alpha PEP66U! :)

I suppose it said that because it was untested on other motherboards before. I had the slot 1 version on my P3B-F...it was rock solid alright but it couldn't overclock well...add to that the weak retail hs/fan that was on it wasn't helping very much. I would go with the FC-PGA now... just in case you find yourself another motherboard somewhere along the line... and it would probably be a socket.
