Is it bad...

That I'd rather play Battlefield 2 and 1942 vs battlefield 3 due to the fact that you can LAN game and use mods? I actually purchased the games from amazon so I could install them again. Battlefield 1942 looks dated but both games are still as fun as I can remember. My system btw is a Phenom 1090T with running at 3.8Ghz, 8GB of DDR2 RAM and a pair of SLI'd GTX 470s, so it runs Battlefield 3 really smoothly. Its just, I think the experience of the older games are better when playing with friends.

Buck up mate --- don't feel bad. for what it is worth last night I played "viper racing" (from 1998) on an old Win 98 legacy box as opposed to BF3 on an oc'd 2600k, 580 sli rig.

Old games = good!

Just booted up Icewind Dale the other day and am having a blast with it. Just because it is the newest, doesn't mean it is the greatest.

I need to play this series still. I loved NWN2 and I heard that it was not as good has NWN1 and icewind dale.

Icewind Dale is hand down one of my favorites. If you enjoyed Baldur's Gate, this is a must.

Understand though, there is no "Party interaction". You create your entire party and have 100% control of them. No romances. No "Party Banter". I mention this because it is the one thing that people complain about vs games like NWN1-2 and the Baldur's gate series.

Other than that, you have the tactical combat that Baldur's Gate gave you. There is a decent story that will take you all the way up to EPIC levels. Level advancement is fairly quick and there is a lot of cool loot. The adventure is lots of fun. There are a wide range of monsters to fight. The challenge level is solid. And there are two expansions (plus some community content), Heart of Winter and Trials of the Luremaster that take you well into EPIC.

I think you should play and do whatever makes you happy.

Your opinion is the only one that really matters.

I try to stay away from games like Call of Duty United Offensive (for example) cause it reminds me of the good times I had with that game and makes me cry whenever new "latest and greatest over hyped" release comes out.

I still think UO was the best COD ever made.

No, you're right. United Offensive was amazing. If someone says their favorite CoD is something other than UO, it's probably because they never played UO. 😉

Yeah. personally I loved Call of Duty: Ultima Underworld. it was the greatests Swords and sorcerery shooter I ever played. ;P

i booted up metal gear solid on my xperia play phone and been playing it at work still better than any game ive played recently

It's not bad to play older versions of franchise games when the most recent versions have been consolized or compromised in some sort of a way. For example, a great many people rejected the consolized abomination that was Unreal Tournament 3 and instead continue to play the original UT99 or UT 2004. If you want to play Dungeons and Dragons online, Dragon Age, the successor to Neverwinter Nights, doesn't offer online multiplayer nor custom mods (as far as I know). In that case the game you would want to play is Neverwinter Nights.

I wish more people would consider going back to older games when the newer ones are crappier. There's no reason why we shouldn't have an active and thriving Unreal Tournament (1999) community right now since it's one of the greatest online multiplayer FPSes of all time. So it has older graphics. Who cares! The game play is still the best.

My bro just got the same phone.

Lots of strange problems. I think he should return it.

Did yours come with Battlefield: Bad Company 2? On my brother's phone, it's nearly impossible to aim with the dedicated dual-analog control. Switch to the touchscreen and it works fine. Everything else about the game appears to be optimized for the Xperia Play (on-screen instructions, menus, etc).

Which successor are you talking about? Baldur's Gate? They have online (or at least Co-op play via internet connection) and custom content expansion. And the "Original" AO(hel)L game "Neverwinter nights" was all online based on the "Gold Box games" but that isn't around anymore.

You must conform. Cut your hair, wear a suit, brown nose, and play only the most popular modern games. Anything less is bad by definition.

I 3rd this. I like original COD and UO alot and still occasionally play online when I get a chance. COD2 was horrible and the newest ones are also meh. There is just something about the feel of the game that made it seem more real in a way.

original COD was pretty hardcore, when I go back I'm always surprised at the amount of recoil in the game.

Makes DOD:S recoil look arcadish....hehe

Actually I got the urge to fire up BF2 lately since BF3 has ended the BF era (really it ended at BF:BC marking its rebirth as console fodder).

I didn't even care if there are only a few servers left running full-scale battles and not just karkand24-7 infantry-only grenade fests.

Sadly though despite my testament, I didn't make it past the PunkBuster install. I've never had the heart to install it just for a quick gaming session and will only abuse my system with it if I know I'll be playing for weeks. Not only does it refuse to uninstall itself properly afterwards it insists on creating hidden services and infests your system32 folder like a virus. So sad, but no thanks.

Dragon Age was the successor to Neverwinter Nights I/II. Neverwinter Nights was the successor to Baldur's Gate II. Note that Neverwinter Nights can also be played in single player.

There are still quite a few servers up and running. I didn't have any issues installing it on Windows 7.

I found a demo of it and DL'd it (did not come with it). Not sure why the Xperia Play controls suck for that game when it's clear that the game was thoroughly customized for it but they are fine for Dead Space (not that some won't still prefer the touch screen). I did not buy it for those games so it is of no consequence to me. I more annoyed by Android not having things like lockscreen music controls or standard audio output switching within playback apps (BT/speaker/handset) and still needing to root to do the things IU want (something detrimental to this phone's exclusive content). Other than that, I'm happy with the phone so far.

Yeah, please forgive my failing brain. I read "Successor" as "Predecessor". I must be getting old.
