i used newspapers with windex and it seemed to work really good. Really cut down on the streaks.

Not so - the BIG thing to avoid with tinted windows is any product with ammonia. Typically ammonia will very quickly and effectively "unglue" the tint from windows. On the outside, use whatever you like. On the inside, as long as it is ammonia free, you should be safe.
