African lions gorge themselves on a carcass then nap under trees in the shade with all four paws in the air. And they're not fat.

i don't know how much truth there is to this, but i have always heard that it's bad for your esophagus (sp?) to lie down right after you ate, because gravity hasn't quite helped get all your food down. and when you lie down you no longer have gravity to help get your food down. and that has food sitting in your esophagus and that is one of hte causes for acid reflux.

but again, i've heard this through word of mouth before and nothing more.

I get indigestion if I nap after eating. Would rather nap and then eat.

I'd assume it's not good for weight loss..> You're not supposed to eat very late at night if you're trying to lose weight.

That is a common myth. Professionals typically suggest not eating late at night because most people don't eat because they're hungry, they eat because they're bored. The goal is to try to get people to break that habit. Metabolically, it really doesn't have much of an effect.

doesnt your metabolism slow down at night?

Metabolism isn't something that we talk about acutely all that much. We typically refer to metabolism as how many calories you burn in a day. Yes, there will be variations in how many calories you're burning throughout the day, but if your overall caloric intake for a given day is below that, you'll lose weight. Just because it changes for one moment doesn't mean you haven't already burned significant calories earlier in the day.

sorry, I was for some reason thinking about going to bed at night and sleeping for 8hrs. In this situation I believe your metabolism will definitely slow down. If your just taking a nap it might not matter too much but I wouldnt recommend eating and then napping if weight loss was the main goal. Any physical movement will burn more calories than sleeping, yet if you got some sleep eye and then went to the gym that would be another story;)

Hi elitejp,
You are absolutely right . I am with you.
Now a days, every one life is very busy. No one has schedule for doing anything . I noticed many time some of few people sleep at night late and rise early in the morning.
Due to unbalanced life , people suffers many problems.

As I said earlier, metabolism outside of the laboratory isn't typically something that is considered on a minute-by-minute basis. The only metabolism that matters for weightloss is the day's overall caloric expenditure. Even if you sleep, the average will only slightly be altered. If you are already in an appropriate caloric deficit to lose weight (~500 calories), you will not do much detriment to weight loss just by sleeping. Sleep is essential and is considered part of your average metabolic rate. If you go to bed right after you eat, that's not gonna really going to affect much.
