Is it bad to keep cd's in the car?

Will they melt if it's really hot? I mean I see people leaving cd's in their cars all of the time. But I left mine when it was pretty hot out and some cheaper quality ones kinda "melted"...

i usually just keep "back up" cdrs in my car, all the originals are at home

I leave CDs in my car all the time and never have a problem with them melting.

I just remember to take it out of the cd player if the car is parked in direct sunlight for an extended period of time.

Actually, they don't melt, they just kinda explode. How do I know this? don't ask...

My GOD! Dont risk it, CDs have been known to spontaneously combust resulting in your car exploding in a huge fireball and harming innocent passers-by that will sue you for everything you own and used to own which will result in you declaring bankruptcy and fleeing the country in shame all the while a militia forms with instructions "wanted, dead or alive" to hunt you with a reward of millions offered for the return of any part of your body!!!

Seriously, it's cool Just dont leave CD-Rs in the sun as it erases them

It can get pretty hot inside a car parked in direct sunlight. If the CD's are also in the line of fire, they could warp. I keep mine in a glove box case and have not had a problem EXCEPT: Those labels you can print on and slap on a CD, they don't last for me. They always bubble up after some time, just from normal use.

I leave my CD's in the car (either in the glove compartment or the compartment just below the hand brake) all the time. Even have a CD inside the player.

All this at up to 110 degree heat (w/o Index factored in) in a black car under Houston, TX sunlight.

No problems whatsoever. If anything the only thing that i've warped in this car was a bunch of brand new floppy disks that i forgot to take off the dash.

Putting them in the microwave doesn't make them melt. It makes them crack...try it

don't leave your cdrs in your cd player, they will be erased when temps inside the car get really hot...had this happen a few times.

invest in a fabric cd case that holds 6 or 12 cds. put them in there if you leave them in your car. they will still be warm but hopefully still usable.

I keep CD-R's in my car's CD changer. Some of them have been there for years with no problems so far.
I don't use labels either.

That's an awesome trick.. turn off all the lights and let it cook.. you get a cool short burst of blue electricity across the CD.. reminds me of the Emperor from Star Wars.

As for them melting.. they will turn into goo and drip if you hold them over a lighter.. that is a pretty nifty trick as well.

I had a Scoshe CD visor that held 11 cds and kept my CDs in it until I came back one afternoon and the outer rim of every CD that was exposed had melted. As a result, on those 11 CDs the outer tracks are not unplayable and are unrippable. So yes, part of the CD can melt. Also, I once did a test on a Depeche Mode CD to see how much abuse a CD can take, I cooked it in a microwave until a large 1" bubble formed on one corner of the CD and then dunked it in a cold water and then hit it with a hammer and tried to bend it and amazingle the CD could still play some tracks. Not very many, but it did play the first few tracks....
