My cat really likes ice cream. after I finish, I'll put the bowl on the floor and let her lick it clean. She hasn't gotten sick from it yet, but is this ok for her? she's not going to get some weird disease and die, right?

Give her milk instead, she'll love you just as much and you wont rot her teeth in the meantime. ;)

Cats like milk, and ice-cream is made of milk and sugar and perhaps some other stuff. Thus, if sugar isn't bad for the cat, why would an ice-cream harm it? There's probably nothing wrong with it.

Are you supposed to give cats cold or warm milk?

Do dogs like milk as much as cats?

AFAIK (I got a dog) dogs shouldn't drink milk, and they should never eat potato either. These products are harmful for dogs.

haha, I"m actually answering a question posted by THE ROSSMAN!!....

My dog loves milk, but I think dogs are lactose intolerant too....

my dog's poop come out mushy and soft if she has any dairy products, so I wouldn't reccommend it.

haha, it feels good to not be the one on the recieveing end of a thread....

ok, I"m done.

I always knew about no chocolate for dogs but I never knew about potatoes and milk but now I know, thanks!

What about french fries if you give them one or two?

I'd avoid it for the most part. I occasionally let our cats lick small amounts out of a bowl, but anything more makes them ill. Buy some special formula milk found in the pet section of Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc., they seem to like that just as well.

There is nothing wrong with giving dogs potatoes.

Edit: I did a google search, and found nothing recomending against it.. and a few hompages where people make their own dogfood.. and they use potatoes.. :p

it depends on flavour i suppose. if dogs are allergic to chocolate, cats are probably allergic to something too:p chocolate ice cream would give a dog more then diarrhea:p

i suppose vanilla is pretty safe...

Never give cats any dairy products, unless you enjoy cleaning up explosive diarrhea. Our kitties love ice cream, but the most they get is a good spoon lick.

I don't think you should give cats chocolate either... overall I don't think ice cream can be a good thing for them.

Cats are lactose intolerant.

Chocolate will kill puppies and cats by rendering their heart immobile.

Chocolate will make older dogs sick.

Do not feed milk or chocolate to your cats, or chocolate to your dogs.

Fact or Fiction? All cats need milk.
Fiction. Cats do not need milk. In fact, some cats are lactose intolerant and can't handle milk. If your cat has diarrhea after drinking milk, it could be lactose intolerant.

Some cats are lactose intolerant, and giving the lactose-intolerant cat dairy products will result in an upset tummy and diarrhea. While a small amount may not harm kitty, a great bowl of normal milk every day is not good for the cat, despite how much kitty clearly enjoys it. There are specially treated milk for pets that have had their lactose significantly lowered, and these special milks are probably better for the cat with a milk addiction. Cleaning out the last drops in the your breakfast bowl may be OK, but you should keep an eye on kitty's stools to see if the cat has been affected or not.

ya didn't look hard enough ;)

POTATOES - Although cooked, mashed potatoes are actually quite nutritious and digestible for dogs, the solanum alkaloids found in green sprouts and potato skins can cause rare cases of poisoning.

If your cat can tolerate a little milk or ice cream treat once in awhile, then why not let her have it.

Mine loves to finish the milk in my cereal bowl when I'm through with it. She likes bacon and spaghetti sauce too :D

Chocolate can be lethal. Milk can be harmful, but before I knew this, I would occasionally give my kitty, Tender, (my first ever pet, who's still alive and kicking at the age of 16) licks of ice cream. It never hurt her, thank goodness.

Here's an interesting tidbit, however. I read a cats newsgroup, and one woman's cat had cronic constipation. She and her vet tried everything, to no avail. Finally, she gave her cat a little bit of milk (some lactose intolerant cats get the runs from drinking it), and wa-la, constipation cured.
