Is it bad to compliment girls, by telling them they are cute?

Any thoughts about this?

I would say for sure this would be out of wack if you went up to a random girl and said this,

but what about if you are friends with her? how close friends do you gotta be?

Would the girls abuse this kind of knowledge, when they realize that people think they are cute, or if they know that "you" think that they are cute?

Nothing wrong with complimenting your friends, just don't walk upto random girls. Works for really smooth guys, but doesn't work for the majority.

There's nothing wrong with telling a girl you know that she looks cute today, or that something she's wearing is cute...
Usually this is called flirting, unless you are really good friends.

nothign wrong with that. if you're good friends you should be able to say quite a lot more without any offense...

Just don't do it at work unless you REALLY know her well. People who sue for anything now a days.

I'm not an attractive guy so I have no leverage in complimenting a random girl on her looks. I wouldn't even do it...just cause it sounds stupid.

I tell my female friends that they're cute all the time...

The definition of "really smooth" that applies here is: Any guy who's not afraid to walk up to a random girl and compliment her on her looks.

The old saying goes:

Treat a whore like a lady
Treat a lady impolite
Tell a smart one that she's pretty
And a pretty one she's bright.

That's all you need to know about talking to girls.

I'd only do it if I were interested in them. No other reason would really urge me to say it to them out of the blue. Doesn't matter if they know it or not.

It is completely bad to compliment any girl, unless its a back handed compliment.

For example:
WRONG: Hey, you're cute!
RIGHT: Hey, I don't care what anyone else thinks, I think you're cute and that's what counts.

You empower her and she'll treat you like dirt (yes, she would abuse that kind of knowledge). So remember, the back handed compliment will lower her self esteem and make her latch onto you more than a compliment would ever do.

If everyone gives her the backhanded compliment tho, then she will eventually catch on that she's cute, knowing that, and abusing that privelage.

I have the courage.. I'm good at making myself say anything to anyone,

I'm just wondering if it is worth the consequences.

This is interesting.. It sounds like I'm getting mixed responses.

Some people think you should be really close friends before you make a comment like that,
while others think its cool to do so if they are not a complete stranger,

and some people think its cool to do this with complete strangers! Arggg... so many choices.

I guess when I said 'friends' i was more so wondering about aquaintences

Till she smartens up,confronts and then dumps you.The compliement wrapped in an insult is passive-aggressive behavior.

If you're trying to pick up a girl, don't tell her she's cute/hot unless she is really NOT hot.
If she is hot, make a lighthearted joke that makes fun of her, but don't overdo it.
If you gush to a super hot chick telling her how amazing she is, chances are that she will blow you off because she's heard it 1000 times before.

I wouldn't just say "she's cute"...sure, you could work it in casually, as I do all the time, but it mainly works because of my personality. I'm very open, and close with my friends...they realize to expect compliments (and sometimes, if they don't look so good, much of the same).

That's why it's only advice on how to pick up a chick, not keep one!

nope, nothing wrong about that at all. However, going out on one date, calling her several times afterwards, bending the internet to find her IM name and blog to see if she'll talk to you or about you, rubbing one off at the sight of her on-line gaming avatar...

Now that is bad.

Have hot women really beed told that they are beautiful a thousand times before? Maybe women get handed compliments more than guys, but in all honesty the only compliments i've received about me being 'such a handsome boy' are from family and old relatives.

Do girls just get complimented more than guys? if so, this is unfair.
