So i went to a job fair and I got an email from a representative. He told me to contact him and he'll def have a position for me. So i sent him an email and i get this message from gmail: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 #5.1.0

So i then contacted their HR and notified them that I am getting that message when trying to email a message. They tell me that everything should be fine with his email and he should be receiving emails. But they gave me his phone number just in case. Now, is it inappropriate to call him at his number given the fact that he never directly gave it to me? I would think it would be stepping over boundaries.

Maybe it's a test to see how bad you want that job.

Maybe it's some kid's college psychology experiment and you're the lab rab. They could be watching you right now, wondering what you'll do next. "look he's posting about it on ATOT" (scribbles in notebook).

Should be fine, and you have nothing to lose since if you don't call, he will never hear from you and you won't get the job. Start out with something like:

"Hi, Bob, this is Kevin1211. Your HR dept. gave me your number since my email is bouncing for some odd reason. Now, how bout that job bitch?"

Maybe leave out that last part but you get the idea.

What's a lab rab? 😉

This.

yeah sorry about the dumb question. I didnt know the proper etiquette regarding this matter (still a college senior). I left HR my number and email address so they can give it with him. They also forwarded me to his voicemail, in which i left a message. Hopefully all goes well.

I'm more concerned with why someone recruiting for a company would leave you their gmail (or anything not @companydomain.com) account.

Sounds fishy to me. Like, you wrote it down wrong fishy.

You failed and you won't get the job.
