A couple of my kids got homesick. This is not something you want to find out on a trip to Bermuda. Try an overnight close to home first. Yes, they screamed constantly nonstop. Also, my youngest gets airsic-carsick-etc.

That said, travelling with small children is cool, it will open your eyes to new experiences. We kept everybody out of the sun from like 10 to 2 or 3, but the beach in the early AM is awesome, and sunset on the beach is unforgettable. We found tons of places for the little ones to play while we could sit and semi-relax. Sightseeing was a pain, and meals were generally horrible. Avoiding normal vacation stuff was our best bet.

I remember in bermuda that the kids LOVED riding on the mopeds.

We would bring someone along to watch the kids for the couple evenings or day trips we'd like to go on while vacationing with the kids. Not everyone can afford that though.

My kids grew up at the beach in a resort town with a Surfer dad and Gidget mom who would take the kids to the beach or camping all the time (yes, even the babies 😉, so I guess if you're not used to being outdoors or walking around with infants....I dunno, we took the kids with us everywhere....even Vegas and Sailing in Mexico...whatever 🙂

Go for it. Live life instead of always staying at home for fear something could go wrong or some stranger might be offended.

Edit: This is advice from a parent who took her kids with her everywhere from the time they were born.

Expose your kids to everything you can.

My daughter still talks about being in Africa at age two - she's 5 now. We have pictures of the trip - tons with her in them - and she absolutely loves going through them and talking about the things she sees.

I never liked the backpacks. They're hot in the summer, and you can't keep an eye on the kid. I always bare arm carried my daughter, or used a car seat/carrier held on my shoulder.

We took our 2 year old to Maui a few years ago and he went to Spain with us when he was almost 6.

Just don't be like the poors that buy only a seat for themselves, and not the baby, to the detriment of everyone around them.

The child is facing the same direction as the parent carrying him. Sandwiched is the correct word but you wouldn't believe how adjustable it is. I took my 5 month old to his first football game last weekend. He had a blast and loves the backpack.

Keep in mind 40lbs is the max weight for cargo AND the baby.

For boys, the 50 percentile is 32lbs at 36 months. So for most children it will work up to age 3.

That was my experience when we went on vacation with a kid who was almost 2 years old. You'll enjoy your vacation more if you leave the kids with their grandparents.

you know your kid better than anyone else and every kid is different.

at my niece's christening, there was another baby there who was the same age... my niece was more or less perfectly quiet during the entire dinner after the church while being passed around the entire room, while the other baby was crying non-stop (his parents eventually just gave up and took him home)

Enjoy your trip. If you bring the kid, it will be a change of routine for the kid which will mean crankyness. You'll spend your time looking after the kid and not enjoying your vacation.

You'll also piss off everyone else around you. Nothing worse then some family with a screaming child all day long.

The kid will be better off with grandma, and you'll enjoy your trip better.

This. Plus you won't have to put everyone else on the plane through hell when you bring two crying babies on board.

If you can't find a sitter, it's fine, but it's pretty pointless. I can't remember any of the trips I went to before the age of 4 (Hawaii, Hong Kong).
