Is it all right to put my DVD player on top of my center speaker?

No, other than possibly tipping over there shouldn't be any issue.

If your speaker size is set to large for the center channel you may find that the speaker enclosure could send enough vibration into the DVD player chassis to induce skipping when playing back loud scenes.
