Is it a requirement for fast food employment to be utterly stupid?

I drove through Taco bell tonight and ordered a chicken Quesadilla meal and a bean burrito (just like I always order) and the total came to 5.10 (as always)

after I pay the dude hands me a medium Moutain dew when a meal comes with a large. I questioned him and he told me all they had were medium and XTRA LARGE cups. Not to worry though he had only charged me for the medium drink. I asked to see the receipt and he handed it to me and it did show a 20OZ MD included in the meal price of 3.89. When I asked why I had to pay the full price when I was getting a smaller drink he told me I didn't. I explained that I the menu CLEARLY Showed the larger drink at 3.89 yet I was getting a small drink for that price. I asked for the larger drink. He said He couldn't do that. He then added that I was getting exactly what I paid for occording to the receipt. I said "If the menu says I get the larger drink for 3.89 doesn't it seem I'm getting slighted by getting the smaller drink at the same price" BLANK STARE. He then offered to sell me a 12OZ soda so I could have the full 32oz of MD. I looked at him and said "forget it"

I am totally convinced this guy had NO IDEA that I got jipped of 12oz of pop. He had no idea why I was questioning the downgrade of my drink. I was just happy I had some left from my 20 tea I had bought earlier.

Sorry just wanted to rant a little.

The Taco bell by my university seems to have some sort of affirmative action on hiring mentally handicapped people (really, they're retarded).

Not a requirement, more like "stupidity is not necessary, we will train you in this if we decide to employ you" type of thing.

In my foodservice management experience (which includes fast food) I have employed several teachers, a nurse, many college and high school students, trade workers, etc.

I've had my experience with blithering morons, too, though, and in the case of customer satisfaction and service, there is no excuse for failure.

I was in the drive through. I wasn't gonna make the people behind me wait and I was in a bit of a rush to get home.

I toyed with calling the taco bell hotline and seeing If I can get the free food coupons. I may do that tommorow.

Everytime I ask the manager to rectify a sit. at a Taco Bell they always want to double my order for free. "I ordered what I wanted no more no less"

yeah, but there IS a bare minimum of service you expect, even at a fast food place. and giving customers sh!t is always uncalled for.

I work at a taco bell, and can agree that we go through many idiots around here. Luckily none seem to stay around for very long, the few of us who actually have more then 3 brain cells pretty much run the place, even doing most of the work that the so-called shift managers are supposed to do. I will also say that we have ran out of the large cups before, and usually just give the customer a choice of either the medium or xtra large cup, whichever they want for the normal price of the meal with a large drink. I am going to stop buy a computer place tomorrow that is looking to hire somebody, hopefully I can get a job with them, and make more then $6/hour, that is after a year of taco hell.

I want what I ordered and If I can't get that I shouldn't pay full price for a PARTIAL ORDER.

Imagine you oreded up a 512 stick of ram from crucial, they ship you a 256 because they are out of the 512 AND they still charge you for the 512.

Now having said that my main bitch isn't that I got 12 fewer ounce of Mountian dew, It's that the guy inside the window had no idea what the problem was.

no one said 5 star service. but at least 1/2 of a star would be nice.

My personal favorite was the time I went to Taco Bell and placed my order. My order came out to like $5.03. I gave the girl a $10 bill and said "hold on, I have 3 cents."
By that time she had already hit the $10 button or something on the cash register. So when I handed her the 3 cents, shes goes "what's this for"
So I say, "so i can get a 5 back"
the girl proceeds to say, "but you already gave me enough money."
Me: "yes but here's 3 cents to make it even change"
Girl (completely flustered): "stop trying to confuse me!" and proceeds to give me $4 and dumps 97 cents into my hand!

I would've loved to have seen the look on my face. I was dumbfounded. How can someone be so stupid!

Dude, the smartest people I know are either working in fast food or are bums on the street.

The stupidest people I know are either working in fast food or are bums on the street.

I'm suggesting that your generalization might have been a bit hasty, although you, as all of us, have had a bad fast food experience.

Oh yeah, and I worked fast food for awhile. And I'll admit that most of them are missing a few crayons from the complete 96-color box, but then again, jungle green looks a lot like forest green.

They are programmed to do what the cash register says. the Cash register says $4.97. It's a shame they can't have a little common sense and make change

You want your food, and you want it dirt cheap. If the average meal price at one fast food place rose by one or two dollars to pay employees more, you'd jump ship for the cheaper places in a heart beat. The profit margin on ANY fast food restaurant is already razor thin because of competition. They get the cheapest labor possible, or they go out of business. When you have the cheapest labor possible, you tend to get lower quality labor.

Labor is just like any other commodity; you get what you pay for.

So, you can pay 20-30% more for your food, and get higher quality service. But the first fast food place that tries that will go out of business so fast, you'd never even notice they were there.

You should quit your Burger King day job and find someplace better to live than a cardboard box under the 405.

The last time I went to burger king drive through, I ordered around $17 of food. I paid with a $20 bill and the lady gave me the price of the food for change. :D
