Most Slot A CPUs are classics, but some of the OEM chips are Thunderbirds. See the following link Anand's Thunderbird Review.

In order to see if you have a Thunderbird or a classic, you'll probably need to check your computer manufacturer's website and look for data on your system model.

Didn't the classic Athlons have 512k L2 cache with 2 SMT modules on both sides of the core in the middle of the slot? The TBirds were OEM Slot A's with on die cache.

Anyways, go to H-Oda and d/l CPUID it should give you some help on at least determing cache either 512k for classic Athlons or 256k cache for TBirds.

What are the identification markings on the top edge of the CPU cartridge?

If it has "K7" immediately before the 800, it's a classic.
If it has something with an A (normally "ACC") immediately before the 800, it's a Tbird.

More Info.

Thanks for the help guy's. i guess it's a classic, model # AMD-K7800MPR52B A.

i sure wish AMD would put something on their site to decipher these codes.

Thanks again for the reply's
