Most Slot A CPUs are classics, but some of the OEM chips are Thunderbirds. See the following link Anand's Thunderbird Review.
In order to see if you have a Thunderbird or a classic, you'll probably need to check your computer manufacturer's website and look for data on your system model.
Didn't the classic Athlons have 512k L2 cache with 2 SMT modules on both sides of the core in the middle of the slot? The TBirds were OEM Slot A's with on die cache.
Anyways, go to H-Oda and d/l CPUID it should give you some help on at least determing cache either 512k for classic Athlons or 256k cache for TBirds.
