Amex uses your credit score and stated income to dictate credit increases. They place very little on your history with just them. If you have lower than a 700 you are really out of luck for that large increase.
I have the ability to charge 40,000 per month. Not that I want to. Having a super large limit is not always a good thing. I was told my a CSR that you need a 740 to get a limit of 12,000 monthly.
