Is it a bad idea to not have a case speaker for beep codes?

I've always had case speakers in the past, but the P180 apparently does not have one. Is it a risk to not have one? Any good alternatives available? I think I recall a post that linked to a little piezo speaker that plugged to the mobo speaker pins but I can't find that now.

Thanks,
BGC

alot of the mobos have one built it. its not as loud but its there. i know my intel wb810, intel se44bx2, msi k7t turbo2, and shuttle an35n-400u all have them. i do use a speaker on my an35n though just because the case has one.

edit: actualy i dont know if the an35 has it ive never tryed it with out the speaker.

i absolutely hate the damn speaker/piezo sound. I'm so happy that my Epox board has those post code thing so i can tell whats going on with the numbers. There is no risk to not having one. Everynew case i get i rip the speaker out and diagnose the computer without it. It does help to have it, but you don't have to have it.

it came without any speakers for it's own good... more cables = no thx
as mentioned, your mobo should have it, if not get a tiny one that has an inch of cable length

Love My ASUS, beep codes come from my System Speakers and if I wanted to I can have this nice lady Clearly tell me what my problem is.

I am most likely going to get an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium, but I will not have any speakers connected to the system for a while. When I do have speakers I usually don't have them turned on until I plan on listening to something.

Your local Mom&Pop computer shop likely has a junk box full of the things - I doubt they'd charge you more than a buck for one. Heck they might even give one to you for free if you can find something else that you need to buy and just sort of mention the beep speaker as an aside.

It bothered me too on my p180. I found a case speake with wiring in one of my old cases. Drilled a tiny hole in the inner front panel to feed wires in to board connector, and glued speaker to outside of hole. Very neat and works.

No, I am sorry that I have not shop with them. So, I cannot tell you how the shop operates.

I believe you can only use your system speakers, with the motherboards that support it, for post reports if you use on-board sound. If you use a sound card, you cannot since a PCI sound card needs drivers to operate and there are no drivers until Windows comes up.
