Is it a bad idea to get BestBuy or a Circuit City type place to install car audio?

Like if I buy an XM Radio and the other stuff, are their installation folks ok?

Is it better to take it to a local audio place and have it done?

Any idears on the time frame it takes or the cost of installation?

Don't have a CC or BB here, about 90 miles away. Would like to get something done on the weekend.

Why don't you just take it to a local place, rather than driving 90 miles?

I prefer BBuy, but that's because every install I've had done at two different Best Buys has been top-shelf work. I couldn't have done it better myself, and I'm a bitch about these sorts of things.

Dunno about Circuit City, but I don't shop there as a rule of thumb. Evar.

Just don't get it done at Mickey Shore, or one of those stand-alone car audio shops. They tend to do VERY jury-rigged installs. VERY. Personal experience here talking.

Cause XM radio units are on sale at BB and CC.

Do they let you watch them do the install? I worry about them running wires from the roof to the inside and getting leaks later down the road :(

Maybe I'm just paranoid.

Do it yourself and save some money. It's easy. You could guess at it and most likely get it right. Otherwise there is ton's of information out there to help you if you need it.

Best Buy installs are pretty good. I knew a few people who used to work for them and took pride in their work. Car installers get paid more than the sales people and use their own tools. Also, they have to wear certain clothing so it doesn't scratch peoples cars...

I had my CD player put in at Best Buy because it was a gift from my parents. They did a really nice job
