Is iSNS required for all iSCSI environments?

I'm in the initial stages of planning a very small iSCSI implementation and it appears that an iSNS server is required. Is this true, or can I manage everything myself for now given there will be only 3-4 devices.

I don't think we've ever use iSNS for our iSCSI EqualLogic deployments. Just point the server to the group IP and map the target to a volume.
