Oh, Afghanistan. Yeah, that's exactly where you want to get your "Islam" information. Thanks for clearing that up.

Which country, in your opinion, has the best form of islamic law in practice? Saudi Arabia? Turkey?

As I said before, there is a MASSIVE difference between Islam, and current Islamic practice, in all fields of life, ....education, etiquette, economy (e.g. Japanese's economy is a whole lot more "Islamic" than most muslim countries), political (e.g. Women voting, Democracy, Congress...etc), social (women's rights, marriage..)...etc.

If you want to bash the way these countries are practicing Islam, I'll join you -whole-heartedly. As a matter of fact, you won't find anyone more critical to life in "muslim" countries, than muslims themselves.

No, just reporting from experience living in the most populous Arab nation for 18 years, and reading oppositional and governmental Arab newspapers for 18 years, and going to a governmental university for 7 years...

But hey, you disagree with something you read, ergo, it must be "made up stuff". WIN.

Your experiences seem to be the opposite if my own experiences growing up in the middle east and returning yearly to visit...
Most Muslims just want to be left along to live their lives....

Whats interesting is that what you say is not being reported in any main stream Muslim new papers and I would bet that let`s say your statement is true... why are they not speaking out against their Muslim life in those countries.....just asking?

That kind of thinking is the source of most problems in this world. I wonder if Mahatma Gandhi thought that too!

my apologies, my previous sentence came out wrong.

the correct sentence should have been: "Any action is justifiable by those who commit that act, and their supporters. This includes violence"

Do you not find many reasons given by Bush to the invasion of Iraq? That is violence. He has provided many justifications over the years. A lot of us buy into the justifications. That includes many on this forum.

What does Muslims wanting to be left alone have anything to do with Islamic practices in those countries? This is another fail post.

You will find the wide majority of people in the Middle East - all across the Muslim world speaking about the decline in Islamic practices in their countries - from corrupt leaders, to ridiculous laws purporting to be Islamic, so on and so forth.

This thread and a lot of opinions contained within are full of fail.

All religions have claimed to be the perpetrators of peace while all have either overtly or covertly led slaughters to further advance their beliefs. What is being done is a snapshot in time is being taken and looked at in a vacuum while all transgressions that were committed by those condemning the religion of violence de jour are conveniently forgotten and dismissed.

Get over your arrogant and blatantly hypocritical selves. More people have died in the name of religion than any other reason outside of natural causes. Just because you are cherry picking what religion you want to blame at this current time doesn't diminish the track record of the past.

Do you think your lame argument hasn't been made over and over on this site? First of all, let's understand that most people today are talking about TODAY. Not the middle-ages or some bygone era. Islam TODAY is the most violent and barbaric religion out there. The Quran is textually one of the most barbaric aside from the Old Testament and the vast majority of Jews don't act out the dark portions of the Old Tesatment. Many Muslims do.

Excuse the sane among us for focusing on the last 50 years and the present...

Religion is slavery. How can you ask whether a certain religion is of peace, when it's just a means to domesticate the cattle? A relic from a bygone era where founders and leaders of religion abused it to elevate themselves and further their goal? At best it can be described as a primitive cultural item, engineered to provide some means of social structure beyond tribes.

Depends on the country

I would consider anyone who thinks apostates and adulterers should be killed and thiefs maimed for life a fundamentalist and if they are acting on it they are an extremist.
