When i said TDP, i was misusing it as i did mean Power Consumption... sorry.

Caveman, i understand perfectly fine. You are arguing fact.... you are arguing a moot point.

A moo point... it's like a cow's opinion, it just doesn't matter. It's moo. :D

If that's the case...why do people still bash Intel? Is a 4.2ghz Intel processor still gonna be slower than a 2.8ghz FX-57? Because I plan to OC my SD 3700+ to 2.8ghz and run benchmarks against his 4.2ghz Intel.

The FX will beat the Intel in pretty much every gaming benchmark by a couple/few FPS @ playable settings (might not though, I don't remember seeing overclocked Intel vs stock FX compair, so with good ram the Intel might keep up). Intel will win all the Intel/HT optimized encoding/media benches.

Nothing wrong with his cpu, just not as strong a gamer as a FX and/or A64, and it runs a little hotter/eats a bit more power/sucks at 64bit.

"There is no way that any Intel chip on the market is going to be pulling only 34C"

Intels are very very good at idling. AMD's are almost as good these days, but both should be within 5-12*C of ambient as long as you aren't overvolting much.

Well I think I'll have to take the vcore up to around 1.6 to ensure stability at my frequency (255x11). But it's only a 14% increase...not too much.

I think people tend to forget how good A64s are when you start OCing them. Look Here. Every 100Mhz you get is like 155Mhz OC in P4 land.

Old lowly $140 512KB cache winny at only 2600Mhz beating up on FX-53 and totally destroying a 3.6Ghz PIV. Never mind newer venice and SD cores easily eclipse 2800Mhz.

Anyway a conservative calculation to match a A64 is A64 speed x 1.55 = P4 speed.

To match your 2800Mhz he needs at least 4300Mhz.

okay, I was going to quote a bunch of you, but jscripts won't work right for me, and I can't use the quote button...

anyways, Jeff, I concede the point. for what I do, I'm not seeing any lag. I don't give a fvck about running 10 firefox tabs, sql databases, etc. Most end users don't either. for 99% of the pop. either one multi-tasks well enough, and if they dont' for you, should already have a dual core.

Even that northwood doesn't load lower than my winnie on stock cooling, and prescotts run hotter than they do. No go.

I agree... I was just making my point just because you have one CPU intense application running while you do other things and don't notice any chugging doesn't mean the CPU you're using is a top knotch multi-tasker. Hell, I could run Prime95, CPU burn, SuperPi, and F@H at the same time and not notice any chugging... if I set them all to low priority.

If only the nice, new Intel chipset mobos didn't always cost $200.... I was sad to to see the nForce4 SLI AMD boards soaring prices that high....

I would like like to try a new P4, someday maybe, just about put together a D system until I saw the power intake... wow...

Heh. If you can afford to build a new D (or X2, for that matter) rig, you can afford a few more bucks for electricity.
