Here you go! Old pics but its just to show you the desk.

yeah thats what i want. but with longer desk parts on the side's.

that looks like really thin cheap particle chit (board) If you get a desk made out of particle board, make sure it's atleast 3/4 to 1in thick

I dont think they would sell under 3/4" but ya it is cheap particle board and will be on the hunt for another more better desk in a year or so.

oh they make stuff in 1/2in. and if you have a big monitor, expect SAG

for the most part its smartly engineered cheap furniture. better then buying some cheap shelf or whatever from some other place. putting the stuff together is easier, the quality is consistent...the finish on chipboard is better then average. it does its job for the price and doens't look horribly bland

Its decent quality. I have some of their stuff around the house and it holds up well. I don't abuse furniture so it still looks good.

ikea...

it's better than Walmart/Target, but not as good as, say, Ethan Allen.

for the money, it's pretty good stuff. I have a couple pieces of furniture from ikea (dresser x2, tv stand, book shelf x4), and they've all held up pretty well.

Sometimes its fun to have a messy room. If youre really in the careless mood you can just throw things around, especially if its late at night and your bed is piled with junk, you can just throw it off like if you were about to bone on it. Anyways the main part which everything is attached to on my desk is like an inch and a half of laminated particle board which I have stood on to hang posters and such so I feel its good quality.

Ikea's less expensive furniture is mostly average quality at best. Me and 2 roommates furnished our apartment from there last month since we just graduated college and were on a tight budget. The couch we got is pretty crappy quality, feels like it would break if i sat down on it too hard. Our beds are ok, but none of the furniture is meant to be abused.

PCtweaker,
if you get the urge to go to IKEA,
I live maybe 5-10 minutes away IKEA here in Dale City, and can give you directions. The stuff is OK, We have 2 chairs (a Poang and some onther kind) and a mattress and lots of kitchen stuff. Its good stuff for the price, but hardly top quality.

I love IKEA, I have one Poang chair with the footrest(?). Expensive but worth it... you can just melt in the chair and fall asleep.

I have lots of stuff from them. There is nothing wrong with any of their knick-knacks(dishes shelves frames clocks glasses decorative items etc). It's just as good as any stuff you would get anywhere else.

My kitchen cabinets are from Ikea and are much better then the standard cabinets. Most standard cabinets are white melamine boxes with wood doors. My Ikea ones are just that but a 1/2 to 1/3 of the price thqat I was quoted locally. They are actually better in that they are better engineered. The hardware(hinges and drawer slides) is 10 times better then the stuff you would get from a local cabinet place(regular contruction grade cabinets). Obviously you can get top noth cabinets but at a price.

Their laminate flooring is cheaper then most out their yet it is thicker, has a longer warranty, and is commercial rated which is much better then most other laminates on the market. For laminate flooring Ikea is a steal.

Their furniture depends. I have 2 couches from Ikea and they ar eperfect. Not cheap at all. But they weren't cheap $200 couches from Ikea either. I have a couple Poang chairs and some stool which are very nice. My desk is from Ikea but it's not really a desk. I bought 2 birch table tops and some legs and put the 2 tables in an L configuration. Nothing crap about 1 inch of solid birch on steel legs.

Oh my guest bed is from Ikea too but it's not used much so can't comment on it really.

Oh wait I have a 3 "entertainment centre boxes" that I bought from them. They are not very high quality. But they fit the bill(looking for something short and wide to hold my gear under my projection screen). But the price was so low who cares if they break.

It all depends on the stuff you are looking at. Not all stuff in Ikea is cheap. And that statement holds true for both quality and price.

It may not last forever but it looks alright and if it ever breaks you could replace it 5 times and it would still be cheaper than ethan allen/pottery barn, etc etc. My Ikea stuff has survived a lot of moves - granted some pieces now are a little broken but I just have to buy the replacement parts instead of the whole thing again.. yay interchangable parts!

Besides when you move, how often do you run into your furniture? Particle board isn't that strong but it should handle fine. Suppose you have kids and they regularly damage stuff - I wouldn't want to have expensive furniture in that case either.
