necessary? It can casue grounding problem and I don't see any benefits.
What are the benefits? Maybe for newbie that don't know what ps2 and usb connector loooks like.
 
"Grounding problems" heh I wasn't aware of that being a problem but you're probably right. I rigged up a new barton 2500 system in some lady's old gateway case(p3) and so far I haven't gotten a call about it. Since the gateway case had the I/O shield build into the case I had to cut it out and just leave a huge hole in it.

It's really there to prevent EMI leakage. Just don't put any sensitive electronics back there and you should be fine.
