Is humanity worth trying to save with technology?

It seems like no matter how technology we have, people are still self serving, myopic, dumbasses, etc. So someone will always use the best technology to exploit each other, abuse, injure others or themselves, etc. I mean, when people started off with just sticks and animal hides, things like environmental damage, genocide, accidents were a lot harder. Seems like a case could almost be made that it's all just downhill from here.

to a certian extent yes, but not to the point where we are letting idiots bread, prolonging the life of genetic defects and such
