Is Hulu Coming to Xbox 360?

Hulu

Olivia Munn, geek goddess of Attack of the Show, posted an interesting tweet last night. "Just finished promos for hulu/microsoft event I'm doing on june 8!" Just what hulu/Microsoft event could she be referring to?

To us, it seems likely that this event is supporting a Hulu on Xbox 360 announcement coming at E3. Why? Because Hulu on the 360 makes a lot of sense. Quite simply, it's the best internet service you can bring to a TV. So if Microsoft were to pick just one piece of internet entertainment to offer Xboxers (and with no web browser, they need to pick and choose), Hulu (and maybe YouTube) would be top on the list.

Also note that in Europe, Microsoft is supporting the Sky Player. It's a media content service somewhat like hulu but with support for live shows. And it's being integrated right into the XMB. We could see hulu arrive to the platform in a very similar manner. (So it'll probably look a bit different from our tongue-in-cheek artist's rendering.)

But the biggest reason that we're betting on Hulu 360 is because Microsoft's Shane Kim admitted months ago that the company was investigating Hulu connectivity on the platform. So don't be surprised if we hear more next week at E3. Microsoft's press conference is on Monday and we'll be there liveblogging. [Thanks Jake!]

I just got done adding to to media center. I'd rather have it via the dashboard though.

As soon as I started using the Hulu Desktop app last night, I started to suspect that this might happen. Not really sure why, but let's hope it's true.

 This is the one non-gaming feature I want added to the 360 right now.

i've never used hulu, is it just older TV shows?

No, it includes recent TV shows too. Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles and The Office are on there as well as many others.

Man I DEARLY hope so. I use the netflix app often on my 360. If it got Hulu it would be a massive coup and really make this an invaluable piece of kit, even for people who barely care about video games.

Yeah, it has quite a bit of new stuff like a day or so after it hits tv, right? I still see hulu ads, the most popular seemingly the one with alec baldwin.

sweet, i should check it out.

Apparently UK 360 owners will be getting a similar service.

More info:

Millions of Xbox 360 owners in Britain and Ireland will be able to watch live programing such as Premier League soccer and movies following a deal with pay-TV group BSkyB.

The two companies did not give any pricing or full channel line up details but said users of the broadband-enabled games console would be able to watch around 20 live channels on their TVs, including sports, entertainment, movies and news.

They will also have access to an on-demand library of thousands of programs, in what the two companies described as the first time live programing would be available through a games console.

A number of subscription packages will be available, as will the opportunity to access programing on a pay-per-view basis. Users will also be able to take advantage of the Xbox live interactive service, such as talking to other fans while watching sports.

We'll have to wait until Monday and see if MS drops the Hulu bomb for US 360 owners at their E3 press conference.

It's how I watch House.

Well, one can still hope. There's no reason why MS can't add it to NXE the way they did Netflix beyond the proper agreements. The only thing missing right now is the Flash support, but again, there is no reason why Flash support can't be added.

God forbid the "leader" in web browser technology could just put a web browser on their console. Even the Wii has one.

Of course, then you'd have to have a gold membership to browse the web.

If they add it, I will come......

I've been a happy PS3 user for awhile now, but have had to stream Hulu and Netflix via PlayOn and while it works most of the time, it has its occasional buffering issues. Granted, I don't have an ideal setup for PlayOn (Macbook running PlayOn on Win7 in VirtualBox), so an integrated solution would serve me well. I thought about a Boxee/Apple TV solution, but the hardware limitations are a bit disheartening.

If X360 gets Hulu, I will indeed pick one up.

Have you tried Hulu in the browser of the PS3? It's a bit of a pain to add your username & password, (unless you have a keyboard), but once you do, it works well. Try it, and post how it compare to PlayOn.

Ya know, actually I forgot the PS3 browser has flash now, lol... I'll give it a try, thanks!
