Abuse? I dont think so.

The hot sauce is to the kid, what losing your job and losing your house is to an adult. For every action in life, there is some kind of reaction.

The kid is lucky he is getting hot sauce instead of a belt across his butt.

So what if the mom uses hot sauce, it sure beats drowning the kid in a bathtub.

Nobody said life was going to be fair. There a far worse things that can happen.

Doesn't seem that big a deal to me.

We had spankings and "mouths washed out with soap" when we were kids.

The only reason I disapprove of this is that the child will grow up with a general dislike for hot sauce. That would sadden me.

I got paddled. Hard.

They ought to just make shock collars for kids and be done with it.

wow, lady is crazy to go on national tv and admit that she does this to discipline her kid. the responses are funny though.

Beating your kid until (s)he's black and blue is abuse. Locking the kid in a closet for hours is abuse.

Hot Sauce is merely "Food The Kid Doesn't Like", and up there with washing the little brat's mouth out with Soap, though perhaps a little more entertaining for Mom/Dad.

In and of itself I don't think the hot sauce is abuse, but the full punishment seems overboard for the offense watching that video.

Up to the parent.
If it works for her kid then why not.
I don't just put them in cold showers and pour hot sauce down their throat, I also urinate on their eyes.

You damn hippies will say that's abuse but I heard from some guy that read a book that urine is sterile and therefore it's not abuse. No long term (physical) damage means it's not abuse. :colbert:

I just got whipped, growing up not far from New Orleans made "hot saucing" ineffective since we ate stuff loaded with cayenne pepper and Tabasco regularly.

If a kidney stone passed along with the urine, and poked the kid in the eye, would it abuse then?

There would be physical damage, but it was unintentional.

When I was 15, I fell asleep while studying around 11. I was forced to stand outside without a shirt on while it was around 5 degrees outside for about 30 minutes.

Meh, I call it discipline.

Looks like a very good way to teach consequences of bad actions/behavior. Instead of mom counting to three, she can put on a sombraro and count to chili's.

Jalepeno, serrano, habenero! Don't make me bust a ghost on your ass young man!

Too much is getting questioned as abuse these days. The hands-off approach is overrated.

The only reason I disapprove of this is that the child will grow up with a general dislike for hot sauce. That would sadden me.

Really? I got threatened with this punishment many times (sans the shower), though it really only happened once. For college I became a Buffalonian transplant. Duff's wings are kinda like "would you like some wings with your hot sauce?" approach and I rather enjoy being able to say I can handle it. Depends on your perspective.

Though I'll say that being saddened because someone else won't like hot sauce is...weaksauce.

You fell asleep at 11pm at 15 and were punished? Jesus.

Wow. Sounds like the dude who made his kid sit in a cold bath to punish him for something retarded. Of course the kid died of hypothermia. I'll have to find the link for that.

I would consider "hot-saucing" as discipline for my kids.

I think that the only time that happened to me was when I put Tabasco sauce in my sisters' milk only for my babysitter to find out and make me drink it myself.
