The newer players now directly support transfer and playback of MP3 files, so I am thinking about getting one. Anyone has one and would like to comment on them?

That's the thing, there is a complete lack of reviews for the ones that support direct MP3 playback.

He's not looking for an opinion, he's asking about quality. He can find that anywhere. Christ you flipped out and typed the sh!t out of a reply more than I did.

really? i have the first gen of them, well actually 2nd gen. the first gen did transfers at 1x. these 3rd gen that can transfer directly from mp3 would be great...

i dont know if i'd want to plunk 3-4hundred bucks on them though any more, but that's me since i don't listen to music anymore while on the move on foot.

just amazing that with the ipod, an American company, not a Asian, has got a trendy by the masses electronics gadget. Wonder if it's popular in Europe, Asia? I doubt in Asia.

the software is crappy...but they just released a new version of sonicstage i have yet to check out, maybe its better...

The masses are going on about drag and drop now that it will support MP3s...

More than anything, I think the sony MD design blows everything else away...did you see the link for the MZ-RH10 i posted? its fricken sweet.

Not anymore...the NetMDs transfer by USB with a max of 30 some odd songs per disc. and the new Hi-MD hold one gig, and the old discs are backwards compatible and will hold 300mbs iirc.

also the Hi-MD will have the ability to transfer files, word, mpeg, whatever....

Yes, yes it is. It would be sweet to have something like that on a head unit for your car.

It'd be hard to justify spending so much on another one when I've already got a high-end portable. I thought about buying one the newer ones just to transfer the music and use my existing portable.

I've got a MZ-R900.

^^ definetely...they have some cheap NetMD ones that you can use to transfer the music. the R900 is a pretty sweet player...my friend has one.

But as for me, I always break my stuff....rite now my current netmd is on the fritz so im gonna need to get a new one anyways.

I have a Net-MD 410 ... won't play mp3's directly, but sonicstage will convert mp3's and wma's to sony's ATRAC3 format. I paid $50 for the player and 6 discs. the really nice thing about it is the incredible battery life. something like 50 hours off of 1 AA.

yeh great thing about MDs is the long battery life, my MZ-N910 lasts for over 80 hours on one AA plus the internal battery.

oh and the 1gb disks are 7 bucks a pop,.

I've had an old Sony MZ-R90 from 5 years ago. It still works and I still use it. I've dropped it many times and it still works. I got the buttons out of alignment once and just dropped it on the table and tapped it hard on its side a few time to get it back in line (my fault, it dropped from 4ft onto its edge). It didn't play well once (just once) and I dropped it onto my table a few times and it worked again. It can take abuse, but it turned out it was a bad md disc. :)

Just curious, why are you going MD? I love my MD player, but I'm probably going Creative Muvo Micro N200 in the spring. It's just that much smaller. My MZ-R90 isn't as thin as the latest MD player/recorders but it doesn't get THAT much thinner anyways. Technology and features are probably a lot better, but size is still an issue.
